Long term storage of battery
Due to relocation back to the US my 2007 335i and 2019 X1 will be put in long term storage and probably not driven for months at a time. The problem is that I will not have access to a power outlet close enough to the cars to connect them to a battery tender.
I have read that the car always needs to be hooked up to the battery for certain functions even while parked. However, a friend of mine who is quite savvy on cars claims that is not true and that I can pull out the battery and put it on a tender away from the car. I just put in a new battery a month or so ago in the 335 and don’t want to “destroy” it while I am gone, and I want the X1 to be ready to drive right away once I do return. Any suggestions of what to do are greatly appreciated. |

You can pull the battery and store it in a climate controlled area on a tender. The car will be fine.

I would if I had access to a power outlet close to the cars, but I don’t.
Looks like I will have to take the batteries out and put them on tenders in our home. Which leads me to another question, are there any tenders capable of keeping multiple number of batteries at once? |

What`s wrong with disconnecting the battery and just charging it up again when you get home? I get you said you want it running when you get home, but a few hours on a strong charger shouldn`t be to inconvenient.

However, isn’t it better for the battery long term to sit on a trickle charge versus a full discharge followed by a recharge? |

It probably is...They aren`t sitting on trickle chargers in the shops though so i`d be tempted to just disconnect the negative terminal and have done.

I think this issue is much overblown, I have left the car with battery un-hooked for more than 6 months, came back, hooked it on and started without any issue... 70 Ah Bosch battery in new-alike condition...

Considering I won’t be home to keep on an eye on a charger it’s probably smarter to just leave the batteries in the cars. |
