Anyone who recently changed their fluid have seen improvement in shifting w/o doing the INPA adaptation? In my case, mine was about 2 quartz low acording to my friend the bmw tech. He added and my shifting is now better. Not exactly same as before but i think this is because the Castrol fluid I used. ZF fluid tends to shift better acording to some discussions here. I will do the reset adaptations now that i have the correct fluid level. Cheers!!

Waiting on one part to be modified and then will be doing fluid, filter, and pan swap. Going to an aluminum pan. I will post specifics when it happens.

Alpina aluminum trans pan that fits our 335D
As post above mentioned, I got the pan back from machine shop. The OEM part is here at the realoem link.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...84&hg=24&fg=15 I bought it used from a former 335D owner that came across it but never used it. He is a bmw mechanic. The fin height unmodified was 3-1/2" (total height from trans to pan interface flange) which would hang down way too low for my comfort. Here are 2 photos of it prior to any machining and one post machining. The fins were shortened to 2" (total pan height from flange to tip of fin) on the front but i did measuring and see its tighter clearance in back so the fins were stepped down to 1-1/4" at the rear starting 4-3/8" from rear edge of pan. That's pretty neat. What's the weight on that versus the OEM pan?

I will have to wait until the plastic one is removed to weigh it. That is unless someone here has the empty weight of an OEM one. To be fair, I would need to include the weight of the separate filter that is used with metal pan. I'm sure it is safe to say there will be a weight increase with my aluminum pan setup. I think the fluid capacity will also increase about a liter (per Klaus at CTSC). I bought 8 L to make sure i had enough.

Well, it's getting to be middle aged. Better keep an eye on its cholesterol numbers. Hopefully it's not a smoker. Oh, wait ...

Eating aluminum can be calorie intensive. 51 here and still pretty active. Only smoke I blow is from eating bananas and other fruit :-)
Significant other crashed her bicycle 1 week ago so now I'm taking care of her (broken bones). We were doing 13 miles per night about 3 to 4 times a week. |

Replaced trans filter and fluids this weekend. MESSY JOB! Glad to only do it ever 50k miles, which takes me about 3-4 years to accumulate. Ruined a good sweat shirt due to soaking sleeves in trans fluid when removing the fill plug. After 5 washings with strong detergent it still stunk.
I didn't reset the adaptations and the car is still shifting smooth like butter. Much smoother than with the old fluid. So I think you don't have to reset adaptations unless you are getting bad behavior post fluid change. |

Am at a local Indy, they are telling me they are going to check temp via ECU? Thoughts?
Also, from what I have found online the car only needs to be shifted into drive pause briefly, reverse pause, and back to park and then wait for temp to reach desired temp,(40c) and fluid should just start to drop out. They said their manual called for driving the car around for a bit and then checking? I told them not to do this as the temp would get much too high, and then they would need to let the car sit to cool down. Thoughts? Also to all, my kit came with 6q how much did others here need to put in to reach full point? Thanks! |
