Hello I swapped my old trans because it was slipping 4-5 but installed the new trans and kept the old valve body on. We didn't change the valve body from the new trans because of vin locked.
We replaced the valve seals and trans but kept the old valve body on.
And its still slipping 4-5
So we are going to put the new valve body in that came with the new trans because we were told you would have to code it because of vin lock
Could I have assistance on how to code it if I need to?
We reset all adapt. And its still slipping.

I've heard both ways on whether or not it needs coding. I'd reach out to someone like AlpineMSS for coding, he's the man and knows his stuff. He does it remotely and is very reasonable.

Also, did you use ZF lifeguard 6? It's absolutely crucial that you use OEM fluid in this trans or you WILL have issues.

I'll look him up remotely would be perfect. I found places in town that would do it but I'd have to install the valve body then get it towed to them to program it. I use Top Tec 1800 ATF fluid from fcp in the trans. All of our bmws use it and it's never any issues..

Yeah, I would definitely use the newer valve body, faulty solenoids and/or seals cause most trans slipping issues.

While you're in there, I suggest replacing the valve body/mechatronic sleeves and solenoids if your budget allows. They're sold on FCP Euro as a kit iirc. Sleeves made a huge difference on my 188k mile ZF trans.

I can also do remote coding if you're interested. Best of luck!

Yeah we've changed the seals and solenoids. My guy think it may be a faulty bridge seal. I got them from fcp I can warranty them out and go from there. We're going to do the new valve body as well. All we need is inpa and winkfp right?

If it’s still slipping, you probably didn’t need a trans. It’s likely the solenoids. FCP has a solenoid kit for the 6hp. I would advise swapping out the solenoid in question from the “new” valve body. Bet that fixes it. I don’t know about a way to code the valve body, but it certainly can be done. Maybe with ISTA or INPA.

EDIT: have you tried testing the solenoids?

I'm not saying that's exactly what's causing your issues, but top tec 1800 is a universal fluid and is not the correct viscosity for this trans. I've never had one of these transmissions shift right with anything but ZF LG6 or mercon SP.

To rule out that as a variable, I'd strongly recommend using the OE fluid.

Mercon SP has been confirmed both by ZF and Blackstone labs to be virtually identical
