Unhappy Engine problem? 330i

Hi

I have a 330i manual that has been running flawlessly, but I have noticed just now that the engine sometimes studder at low rpm in a corner when acceleration. It goes away after a second or so.

Any idea what might be the issue? This is not occurring everytime.

/Julia

A ton of things could be at fault. Either get a BMW specific code scanner (Bimmergeeks, Carloy, Foxwell, etc.) and let us know what it says, or take it to a mechanic.

Hi again!

My friend lended me a ODB plug and when the engine lamp is on, the voltage and ampere is 0V 0A on cylinder 2 under acceleration on high gear and low revs.

the engine lamp and problem goes away after you drive or shut down the engine and start it again.

sounds like misfiring. Can you read pending and actual fault codes?

If it is misfire on cylinder 2, try swapping coils with another cylinder first, an look for the error moving to that other cilynder.

If the error moves with the coil, then you have a bad coil
If not, then try to swap plugs instead.

If the error remains cilynder 2 even swapping plugs...then may be a compression problem for cilynder 2, or a wiring / connector problem

i would try switching coils, then plugs, then...i would start getting worried

Good luck

Coils go fast on these cars and need replacing every 60k to 80k miles. Super cheap in grand scheme of things. I have done a few times and always replace plugs at the same time.

What makes you write that?

I’ve never heard that and I had 200,000 miles on my original N52 coils.

N54s can eat coils but I don’t think they are bad as most say. 80k on my n54 and I’ve only replaced 3 coils. Done under warranty and I have not had to replace any in years.
