Bluetooth Retrofit - Coding Help Needed
Looking for help with coding for bluetooth retrofit. Appreciate any advice.
Car: 2006 e90 325i, professional radio (SA663), with preparation (SA640). Retrofitting phone/bluetooth. The retrofit kit came with microphone, antenna, TCU1.5 and MULF2 modules. Followed the retrofit guide. Only had wires in the trunk to connect to the TCU module, the MULF2 remained not connected (what is it for anyway?). Using Protool for coding. When I add $639 to the VO, phone options appear in the menu, however, they are inactive. see video in the below post. Am I missing something?

IN 2006 the Mulf 2 was not supported (didn't exist)and they where still on the 1.0 version of the the TCU. (that is why there isn't a second plug)
Don't know if ProTool has away around programing this but people going through standard tools had to change the production date of the car while installing the new software. (not supported in the 2006 version and the production date prevented the installation)Also there is an aftermarket harness made to accommodate the mulf 2 hi. The truth is you don't need the TCU as the Mulf2 high itself will do everything worth doing with the Mulf 2 hi . (bluetooth and USB) http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1181654 I suggest you google TCU to mulf2 hi on the open internet https://www.bimmerretrofit.com/store...&search=combox I would talk to bimmergeeks about there ability to get around the does not exist in this year of production problem with installing the software. Probably would have been easier to retrofit a combox there is more support for that now. But there are conversion thread for Mulf 2 if you look hard enough here. Also if there is a TCU and a Mulf each requires a Fiber Optic connection that needs to be added to the Most Bus. https://www.bimmerretrofit.com/store...&search=combox If you where just looking to add usb, bluetooth streaming, bluetooth phone and easier way to go would be the mr12volt adapters such as. They have the simple version for the Pro Radio and now one for idrive that adds android and does not use the crappy aux input for audio also adds carplay and android audio. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1499808 Last edited by ctuna; 01-10-2023 at 01:17 PM.. |

Or install an Eonon 9465 Android HU. I originally upgraded my 2006 to TCU based bluetooth -- but I took all that out when I added the Eonon unit. Besides bluetooth phone you get: 1) ADP music from your phone 2) GPS based navigation 3) Backup camera 4) Ability to add any Android app via downloading 5) Carplay and Android Auto (wired) This was the best mod that I've made to the car. Mulf 2 HI SVS by itself handles USB Playback, Bluetooth Calling, and Voice Commands (the little voice button under the phone button on your steering wheel) When TCU and MULF2 is hooked up together, TCU handles BMW Assist and Bluetooth calling, and MULF2 handles USB Playback and voice commands Your car is 2006, which does not support either modules you posted in your pictures because they have a build date of 2008 Your best shot is try and acquire a TCU module with a build date of 2006, that is what your car is pre wired for Apart from plugging in the module itself to the wiring, you will also have to establish a MOST loop connection, I have a video explaining the process here: https://youtu.be/K3g5sqVK4MU You will also have to code your radio to add the telephone option, other wise it will not be usable If you want to discuss this in detail, you can catch me on Facebook messenger here I have done this retrofit for my own car, and for another guy who had a 2006 e90 https://m.me/mindlesssam Last edited by sam9116; 01-11-2023 at 10:55 AM.. |

Hardly worth installing a TCU for bluetooth phone only .
You can retrofit a combox or mulf 2 high with some programming tricks though I don't know if it's really worth it. Mr12volt is the best add on I know of as it uses the Most Bus and not the Aux like most of the Chinese Head Units or Add on's . The first version of there unit was essentially a Denison 500 clone. |

OP's car does not have the wires for a combox. In fact I don't think any E90 came prewired for a combox, it's an upgrade for if your car already came with both MULF2 and TCU. you can't program anything unless your hardware is properly connected Last edited by sam9116; 01-11-2023 at 10:56 AM.. |

The retrofit to a Mulf 2 Hi has been done before on a 2006 with the
single cable . You have to loose the TCU and modify the connector for the TCU. http://www.**************/showthread...ighlight=mulf2 where * = b m w coding there are some threads on it here somewhere to as I recall there is some modification to the connector . If you can do a mulf2 I would assume you could do a combox. Last edited by ctuna; 01-11-2023 at 12:04 PM.. |
