E92 N55 pwg to ewg?

Hello friends,

I have a question, i will try to keep a long story short.

I have spun a bearing in my n55. My car is an e92 n55 pwg with the dct.

I wanted to rebuild the engine but i decided to buy a brand new engine. The problem here is i got everything with the engine, like turbos, injectors hpfp and the engine is for a x5. So i will need to change some things with my old engine. Since i got everything new on the new engine i am considering to find out if it is possible to change it to ewg instead of pwg. Is this something what can be done? What would i need? The engine is complete so engine wise i dont need anything i think. Only thing i can think of would be a ECU.

I would appreciate some help/info on this.
Thanks

The ECU you'll need is MEVD172G. It'll look identical to MEVD172, but its internals differ. You'll need an engine wiring harness that has a connector for EWG if your engine does not come with it already. Those are from 2014+ N55s I think.

Other than that I'm pretty sure it's all the same.

The big thing that I don't know of is does any firmware for MEVD172G work at all with the E90?

There are some wires on the engine, also one for the ecu, which will be for the one you say i think. So if you look in to my situation, i got a complete n55 ewg engine including parts like the turbo, injectors and hpfp, the only thing i will need to do is just get that ecu and some wiring?

How will it be woth the coding part? Is that something difficult?

Since the E90 never came with an EWG, it could potentially be difficult. I don't know if it's possible. I edited my answer above, I thought it was MEVD1726 which did come with late E90 N55s, but I do know that MEVD172G was when they went to EWG and that was F-series only. I'd be curious to know if EWG firmware exists for MEVD1726.

Worst case, I can imagine it would be possible to swap out the EWG with a PWG and have it still work fine unless there are physical differences preventing that conversion.

I'm just speculating based on my own readings of ECU and engine versions I've done over the years. I find the stuff fascinating, but I haven't done anything like it myself on my own car. I've been wanting to grab an ECU from a junkyard to try fiddling with it.

Aha i see. Yeah i got everything else from my old engine like the turbo and hpfp, which is working, but i thought since i have everything new on the new one, maybe i should try to convert to ewg.

May I ask the mileage of your e92 and if there is anything that was done (ofhg) before the bearing sprung?
