6FL owners - did you get an iPod case?

To try and decrypt the BMW seemingly random distribution of the leather case in the armrest for iPod, I thought this poll might be a good place to start. Maybe a second poll to drill further based on results here might be in order later.

If you have the iPod/USB option in your March 2007 or later built car, please take a moment to participate in the poll.

Greatly appreciated!

I know what you mean. I'm just trying to figure out what if any, logic determies which cars get the case and which don't. When I bought my '06 (May '05 build) they were forgetting to put the nets on the back of the front seats for many of the E90s... which they put in at the dealer as a recall item. I'm just wondering if we might be able to lobby for the case the same way - unless there is some reason that some get it and some don't. Luck of the draw is not a good enough reason for me.

My E90 328 came with it. My only options are the cold weather package and 6FL, so it seems unlikely that it's package related. According to the VIN, my car was built in Munich. Maybe there is one rogue factory that has not been including it?

March 07' build...whats this iPod case? Paid 600$ for install of the iPod connector and it resides inside the glove box...not the center armrest.

Sorry, this may be a dumb question, what is 6FL?

6FL is the factory fit option that lies in the centre armrest and connects either USB sticks, or with the addition of an interface lead allows full integration of an ipod into the BMW sound sytem, either Idrive or standard head.

Lots of threads on it, do a search.

6FL is an option available only from the factory. It adds an auxiliary audio jack and USB port to the center console. It allows you to connect an iPod to it and browse all playlists, genres, artists, albums, etc. on the head unit as if you were controlling the iPod directly. It also allows you to attach a USB mass storage device and browse the directory structure and play MP3s off of it.

Thanks. Searching is an overrated experience.

LZ, you really are a glutton for punishment....

Not really. Notice the complete lack of rant tone in my thread? If there is some twisted logic as to why some cars have the case and others don't, I'm trying to figure out what that is. If there is none, then I might consider asking BMW about it - could be an oversite. Sending my steak back to the kitchen to be cooked to medium instead of medium rare doesn't make me an asshole, just a customer who paid for something.

As mentioned above, in '05 they left the mesh cargo nets off the back of the seats at the factory. It was an oversite. But they were only added for customers who knew enough to ask for them.

The parts system doesnt show it as belonging to a specific package ( it did show the nets were supposed to be on early cars)

So my guess would be some dealers are throwing it in for free

You could be right, but so far the dealers are pretty clueless about 6FL. Owners are having to explain to them about the required cable and supply the part number. That makes me think that this has nothing to do with dealerships but is put in at the factory.

It would be nice to even get a part number for it, for those who might want to add it themselves. It looks like it is made to easily accomodate the cable and allow you remove the iPod easily while connected. I would consider buying one.

Your wish is granted

Part number 51 16 9 148 062

And you need 3 screws ( so order 3 of the following )

Part number 07 14 9 158 767

Yeah but if you buy both they give you a discount on the air in the tires!!!

My 335 coupe has the IPOD case included in the armrest. Really makes for a nice fit. I now have room for a pen in the center console.

Thanks my friend. It's like having my very own Genie! So the case is attached with screws? I would have guessed Velcro...

I wonder if it's based on interior color maybe? We need another poll with that question because it looks to be a mix so far.

I think you're way off base here. No matter what interior color you select, the top of the dash is always black, as well as the steering wheel. Especially that this is an item that you won't see unless you leave your console cover open to show the world your Ipod connection.....then you might need the OEM alarm which is discussed on another thread.

Do you have it Ste92ve?

Every picture I've seen of the "pouch" has been in a black interior car. Maybe because the other side of the console lid isn't black in non-black cars? I can't remember and can't see my car right now..

You could probably use velcro for quick removal

Though you need to make shure its glued on tight enough, so your Ipod doesnt fall off the armrest
