My 2006 OEM battery finally died, so I replaced with DieHard Gold Automotive Battery - Group Size 48

the battery works but the seat belt and airbag light come on.

what to do

please help.

I believe that's BST. Mine did that and it was "reset". Started throwing that error again and it's in the shop getting replaced.

You probably snapped the BST wire from the positive terminal when changed battery. There is a youtube video I followed and the guy mentioned this issue. You will have to reaplace it if snapped.

The IBS sensor on top of the battery is not plugged correctly. The red box on top of the battery is what we talk about. Search the forum with IBS as the keyword, you'll find a subject with pictures and explanations.

I look at the battery replacement job Sears has done,

there is 1 wire didn't plug in, so I plug it in, but still the airbag and seat belt light are on , what else can I check?

The light won't go away until you clear it using the proper tool (BT Cable, INPA, etc). But now when you do clear it it won't come back because you already fixed the cause.

And since you already need to have it connected to the tool, make sure the new battery is registered. There is a lenghty discussion on this forum whether that must be done or not, but you already have it hooked to the machine, so do it regardless.

Castle is right, the code needs to be reset in INPA/DIS.

You should move that wire so it stays flat in the recess. If it moves around too much, it can recur the IBS sensor light, or can even damage the wire and you will have to buy another IBS ($$$), or play inside this explosive device to replace the cable. Better not going there.

It seams that the venting tube (top white in the picture) is not connected either. Could be normal (sealed gel battery) or it could be that it is improperly installed.

Thank you all for the great advice, I was able to get rid of that airbag light using the BMW INPA/DIS. software, POS software.
using a $30 K+DCAN Cables from amazon.
register the new battery with BMW logger software.

everything back to normal.

Check your vent on your battery doesn't look like it was installed correctly.

Do you remember the specs of your old battery compared to this new battery. You will probably need to re-code the car for the new battery if you changed the type of battery (AGM vs non-AGM) or changes in the CCA/CA/RC

yes, the vent tube I rehook it up, its good now,

the old battery is the BMW OEM one is that AGM? I will go check the INPA software again as its pain to navigate around.

what color was your old battery? If it was white is NOT AGM.

yes, OEM its the white one. so the die hard from sears is AGM?

NOt sure if its AGM or not, cannot see it on pics. I replaced mine with same specs from dealer. White color batteries are mare by Exide, no need for coding.

Double check with Die Hard battery make sure it has same specs as your old one.

If the battery has an inlet for the venting tube, it is not AGM.
