That's the problem, they're no doubt getting wiser to this trend and know that they kinda have you over a barrel.

2 weeks ago I added Cobb to my 12/06 335i AT. 1 of the reasons I went with Cobb was the gauges. I've NEVER owned a car without coolant temp gauge. Last week I was sitting at Wendy's eating a burger while idle and saw 223°f. I was really surprised to see that high temp. So I'm beginning to wonder about pump/stat. I've owned car 6 mos and its at 89k mi. The car was well taken care of. New f&r control arms, ofhg replaced, mechatronic sleeve and trans flush, and no oil leaks. I'm wondering if this is just random electric pump behavior or am I looking at pending failure. Ignorance was bliss before getting a gauge on it. I also lose about a quart of coolant every 4-6 weeks. There is no indication of where coolant is leaking from. It just goes leaving no trace. I don't know if pump/stat was done before and don't want to do it for grins and giggles. I will be diy as nobody works on my cars but me. Any info is much appreciated.

I got a cheap $20 OBD Scanner that plugs into my OBD Port I then have the Torque APPc installed on my Cell. When my water pump went out I was able to monitor the temp as I limped to my dealership.
BMW has revised the design of the water pump as the original design failed prematurely the newer design has proven to be much more reliable. |

I changed out my oil sensor and my water pump issues went away. Once I changed the oil sensor my pumpnstopped staying on after I turn my car off. I think it was reading hot so the wp stayed on after I turn my car off.

Hey guys I might be over reacting but as many of you know not performing preventative maintenance can cost double. My issue is...
My fan sounds extremely loud when the car is running even when it is cool outside. It shuts off when i turn the car off but while idling and moving it is usually loud. It will slow down every now and then but for the most part is constantly running. This is with and without A/C running. Is my thermostat going out? |

Or it could be the water pump. When the fan blows hard for no reason, that's a sign that something is going on with the cooling system. Since the thermostat and water pump are monitored by the ecu there could be something about to fail.

Turned out it was the thermostat. I had to get my wind sheild replaced and had then scan for a problem. I took it to my mechanic and had him do the thermostat, belt, pully, and oil change for 750. I would rather replace it now that be stuck on the side of the road.
