Replacing transmission pan and filter
Without a lift on a ZF transmission possible? Will jack stands give me enough clearance?

Yeah, I did it on jack stands. You'll need a fluid transfer pump to get the fluid out. The mechatronic sleeve is a BITCH, make sure you got good lube for it if you're doing it, and also be very careful its electronic component. But besides the sleeve, simple on a lift.

Did my e60's fluid change on jackstands. It would have gone smoother if I didnt completely remove the fill plug allowing fluid to spill all over the floor. You are supposed to LOOSEN the fill plug, not completely remove it.
Make sure to have kitty litter handy and about 2-4 hours free if this is your first time doing it. Bought my pan/filter here:https://www.oembimmerparts.com/BMW-T...71217e9x-1.htm Filled with Valvoline Maxlife fluid for $30 which meets the Shell m1375.4 specification for ZF lifeguard fluid. |

How much fluid did you end up putting back in? What is the me harmonics sleeve? Isn't it already built into the pan/filter? I still need to buy the pan/filter will probably buy from the link you posted, I already have 5 quarts of ZF lifeguard 6.

Yeah youre right the pan comes with the new filter and a small oring which is the cylinder object on the pan. The mechatronic sleeve is a different job but I think you have to remove the pan to access it so I went ahead and changed it hearing about it failing (80k miles 335i here).

I think I put 6 quarts back in, good to have some leftover in case. The mechatronics sleeve is located near the back, right, top of the transmission and that is the location the transmissions computer interfaces with the transmission. This transmission commonly leaks from that location. Just google a diy for it. I ordered the sleeve but didn't install it because it seems that someone replaced it previously.

All I'm trying to do is a pan and filter change with new fluid. I have 5 quarts of ZF lifeguard 6 fluid, guess I'll go ahead and grab another quart of it since you said you took out about 6 auarts/liters.

Sandra? LOL I guess if you buy me Vossens you can call me that. I think I had 7 quarts and used about all of it (you have to fill til it leaks then close it then change gears open and repeat to get it topped off. Also the car needs to be level
