Mobil 1 0W-40 Full Synthetic oil okay?

I've only ever used the BMW 5w-30 oil in my 2008 e92 the last three years I've had it, and I'm now looking to do my own oil changes (at 6k intervals) and save a little bit of money while I do them. After doing some research, it seems a lot of people use the Mobil 1 0W-40 oil in their N52 engines? I went to walmart to look at the labelling, and nowhere on there did it say anything about being BMW LL01 approved. I was just wondering if it would be safe to use this oil in the car, or is there another oil you guys would recommend I use?

Also, would I run into any problems switching from 5w-30 to 0w-40? What difference would it make?

As I've learned today, just use proper filter like Mann or OEM. As for oil - Mobil 1 0W-40 is a good oil and you should not have any issues. 0W vs 5W will be no difference or minimal difference during cold months - with 0W being delivered faster due to it's viscosity value. And 30 vs 40 will only make marginal difference - with 40 being more "protective" in the long run. However for 6K intervals none of this will make any real difference anyway. Just use it.

Thank you! I'm definitely going to use a Mann or OEM filter. So I should be okay with using this Mobil 1 oil? It seems that many people do use it, I just didn't see any mention of BMW LL01 on the back label of the oil.

Should be more than fine! I know one person who has 300K on his E90 2006 and he was using Mobil 5W-40 all the time from day 1. Key is to have reasonable intervals, not too long. 6K intervals are more than fine! In your case your 0W-40 - won't make any noticeable difference compared to 5W-40, so IMHO it's perfectly fine to use.
