Rear Differential Bushings----A call to all vendors!!!!

So after doing the rear subframe bushings, I couldn't help but notice another soft spot in the E9x drivetrain. The OEM bushings holding the Diff to the subframe are very soft.

Many other sports cars benefit from stiffer bushings for differentials, so why don't we?

Does anybody know if the diff bushings are much stiffer for the M3?

Here's some parts numbers off of REALOEM.com

33176760287 OEM 335i bushing- Front (2)
33176770866 OEM 335i bushing- Rear

33312283019 OEM M3 Bushing- Front (2)
33312283384 OEM M3 Bushing -Rear

If nobody has tried this...I might have to give it a whirl!

This might become a mod that goes hand-in-hand with subframe bushings!

Good point, what about the engine mounts? If i'm correct the M3 has more stiff / stronger mounts....

Turner has solid mounts for the previous generation BMWs ...unless I am blind and missed them.

I'm surprised nodoby's tried doing these...for $80, really surprising.

Edit: I did find them on TMS...however they're full solid. I'm not sure how that would be?!

Do you have experience with changing the rear drivetrain bushings on other cars?

I do... Nissan 350z, 240sx, and my roomate's B6 S4... much like the subframe bushings, they made the rear end feel much more connected..

hmm cool... tommorow my m3 conversion will be ready including a LSD. I first would like to experience that change before defining next steps.

Altough somebody outside this forum told me to have a look at the engine mounts, they could get high wear upon increasing engine HP/Tq.

What's your opinion?

Offhand I think I remember the M3 & 335 diff bushings being the same. Harold/HPA would know for certain.

335is has HD engine mounts. I can't remember if Alpina B3 does too.

they are the same size, but side by side, the m3 has much more metal components-less flex

Bringing back on old thread of yours Brian:
Did you ever swap out your differential bushings with M3 ones?

I'm curious about this too. Getting a LSD installed soon. Having trouble finding any posts from people who've installed upgraded rear differential bushings. Not sure if the M3 ones are compatible and if anyone's had any serious NVH issues?

This is my daily driver. I do like a sporty, slightly aggressive ride, but I don't want to go too far. In general, I've been pretty happy with the sport package suspension. I don't mind firming up the rear diff but looking at Turner's solid delrin bushings, those look a little too scary for me.

I have the turner solid aluminum diff Bushings, along with m3 subframe bushings. No huge difference in nvh

Two reliable sources have told me they don't think the M3 differential bushings will reduce deflection very much v. oe and both suggest Powerflex poly bushes. Two other forum members who have the delrin differential bushings say NVH barely increased v. two members who have Powerflex poly bushes, who both note an increase in NVH. Would love to hear from anyone who's swapped in the M3 diff bushes, even though it appears some M3 owners are swapping their diff bushings out for aftermarket and don't have the torque of a tuned 335i.

Have you noticed a reduction in rear-steer, dog-legging, torque steer under hard acceleration since installing those solid diff bushings?
No huge difference in NVH=what? Would you please elaborate on the difference in NVH?

Gear whine in the 3k rpm range WILL be noticable with stiffer differential bushings. But not everyone is similarly sensitive when it comes to noises. Some get mad with them, others ("because racecar" ) don't care much.

I was referring to you in a previous post as one of the users of poly diff bushings who's experienced in increase in NVH

It doesn't make sense that it would be rpm based (unless you mean 3krpm in 6th gear or some other certain gear) because the differential gradually increases speed as the car does; everytime you shift and cross 3krpm there's no reason for differential noise unless it's some vibration coming through the driveline that is amplified by the stiff(er) differential mounting.

Can you clarify?

It's not a vibration, but a kind of humming/light drone sound which is most perceptible around 2500-3500 rpm with a peak at 3k. It's especially noticable when I let off throttle in that range.

I get a whining sound too when going off throttle. M3 subframe with OEM diff bushing.
