2009 E90 LCI xDrive Fitment

So I am new to the forums and have some questions. Just got my '09 SG 335i xDrive (E90 LCI) and I am wanting to get new gunmetal wheels. I am looking at getting 18x8.5 all the way around being that I have xDrive (I assume this is necessary with AWD?) Anyways I believe the stock wheels on my car are 17x8 with the +34 offset??? What are my tire and offset options with the 18x8.5? I will want to lower the car slightly to eliminate some gap after the 18s are on. I guess I am just looking for suggestions on setups for my car. Blank canvas and ready to mod! Pics of setups that work are greatly appreciated!

You can run staggered with Xdrive, square isn't necessary, although it'll work if you want that. Are you set on 18s only? Or would you be open to 19s as well?

I guess what are the benefits to running staggered vs square? and my only issue with 19s is sidewall because I live in pittsburgh and lets just say many roads here are sub-par haha. And also do I stick with run-flats? TPMS? so many questions....

It's personal preference really. Squared setup lets you rotate tires. Staggered won't let you do that, but it looks much more aggressive, since it's a wider stance in the back. Def ditch run flats, the ride is awful with them on. If you still have a good amount of tread on them, you can sell them here, there are always buyers.

I'd get a set of TPMS - you don't HAVE to, but your TPMS light will always be on otherwise. Also, it's nice to know if/when you have low pressure in a tire. Check the FS section, they pop up at times, for about $160-200ish. Make sure you get the ones needed for your year (older ones won't be compatible)

Sizewize, if you stick with 18s, best size is probably 18x8.5 et 35 for square and 18x9.5 et 35 or 33 for rears if you want staggered.

Awesome! Thanks for all the help on this. What would you recommend for tire sizes then if I went with the staggered setup you mentioned? And would i have to worry about any rubbing if i lowered the car eventually to match up with the 18s? First time buyer of new wheels and tires if you couldnt tell...

No problem, glad to help. If you go staggered, you should probably stick with 225/40/18 and 255/35/18. You wouldn't have to worry about rubbing with the above specs, even if you are lowered. I'm lowered on 19s and have no rubbing issues.

Couldn't he also use the tire pressure sensors from his OEM wheels on his new ones? He doesn't necessarily have to buy a new set, right?

Yeah he could do this as well. TPMS can be taken out and switched over the new wheels/tires as well.

You can run both a staggered and non-staggered fitment on the xi models without any issues. The main thing to keep in mind is that you have to keep the rolling diameter of your tires within a 1% difference for the AWD system. The E90 LCI do also take a more conservative fitment as compared to the E90 Pre LCI models.

non-staggered:
18x8.5 ET35 - 235/40/18 all around

staggered:
18x8.5 ET35 - 235/40/18
18x9.5 ET40-45 - 265/35/18

I have seen a lot of pictures all over the forum with 19s. Just curious if you guys have any pics of a car lowered or not with 18s or the setups you are mentioning. Wheel type i want to get is VMR VB3/V710/Forgestar F14 look in gunmetal finish. Thanks! and I think my PM system is finally functioning

I think I have made the decision finally. I am going to run a non-staggered setup.

18x8.5 - 235/40/18 all around

I am getting Gunmetal Forgestar F14 wheels with Conti Dw tires. As far as the offsets go I want to get the most aggressive and flush look I can so I will figure those out before I order. And then hopefully a drop to follow to make it look reeeeeeeel nice!!

Thanks for all the help!

Tire calculator says going from OEM 225/45/17 to 235/40/18 is a 1.7% difference.

I just ordered a set of wheels for my girlfriend's car. Now looking for what tire size to get. Will a 235/40/18 on an XI be okay since it conflicts with the 1% rule of thumb?

Correct me if i am wrong but the way i understood the 1% was only for a staggered setup. You want less than 1% difference front and rears to keep the AWD happy. If you are running the same wheel all the way around there is no 1% rule. Calculator is giving you a % difference based off of original overall diameter which in turn will give you an incorrect speedo.

If you are running a square setup, you dont have anything to worry about for the AWD. So yes with respect to that you are good. Im not experienced enough to speak directly to the fitment of the wheels and tires but i think you should be fine there too. May want to talk to a vendor or someone with experience though. Im a noob

Yep. It's a square setup. Rims are just VMR 710, 8.5 all around.

You should be good. I was looking at that same setup for my E90. Post some pics when you get them on! I love those wheels.

Thanks, man. Will do.

The .5' larger diameter will hopefully make the ride smoother and conceal the nasty wheel gap a bit.

Make sure to post pics, I'm thinking about the exact same setup and would be great to see installed. Thanks in advance!

They are on 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 tires. They came off of 335 RWD LCI

Thanks in advance
