Thanks for the advice. I have never thought about it. My 256 GB drive is USB 3.0. I need to find a drive that is more than 32GB and supports 2.0 instead.

I just did the update with a 32gb USB 3.0 drive formatted fat32 without any issues whatsoever.

That's good to know. I used to use my 32GB flash drive for all the map updates until this year. However, this time the files did not fit into my 32GB. So, I decided to use my 256GB. Since this drive is much larger than 32Gb perhaps I should wait longer for the car to recognize it and ask me to update it. I plugged it and the USB light was blinking for a few seconds then stopped. Next will be plugging it to USB and go for a drive. Hope it will be recognized at some point.

Not all firmware is the same. I've seen where CIC with older firmware will NOT recognize USB 3.0 drive, something likely corrected in newer CIC firmware.

The largest fat32 formatted drive I have gotten to work was 128gb.

Hi, New to BMW.
I purchased a used 2012 X5 and I have been unsuccessful trying to Format and download the large Map File. I used a formatted 64gb to FAT32 only to not be able to download the Map. I have an FSC code purchased by a third party.
Have not been able to get the opportunity to enter.
I just saw this blog using the torrent tool but when I open it gives options and I don’t know which one to pick. 32 bit or 64 bit.
If anyone has successfully done this and can share some wisdom please let me know, which Flash Drive used and the tool used to format to FAT32.

Thanks Right2Repair, the torrent download worked fine with utorrent. I will continue to seed for awhile to help out.

So finally I've got my 256GB work. I created a 64GB FAT32 partition. For some reason my car was not recogninzing the 256GB. However, now I have another issue that I have never seen before. I have been updating it on my own since 2015 with the life time FSC code that I have. I took pictures of my idrive screen. My latest version is 2021-1 which I updated without any issues last time. Whend I hit start update It does not allow me to do so. Any suggestions?

Took nearly an hour. I drove the car around for the duration to make certain it did not go to sleep. It rebooted a couple times and then was complete.

I already had a Lifetime FSC in the E70.

you do not need to drive around to complete the map update. The system will always pick up where it left off every time you start the car and driving.

How were you able to use a 32Gb stick? I mean I am just in the process of downloading the map and the file is 30.5Gb

Edit Lookup.xml file and Clone older entry and edit to be SWID_FscShort="002D0065" name="Road Map North America PREMIUM 2022-2", and then it will be there.

We are downloading the (USB) version, should it be:

"Road Map North America PREMIUM (USB) 2022-2" ???

How about the sop=(date) should stay whatever the clone is? I am cloning the 2021 entry. sop="01.06.2020"

SOP not matter. All that matters is SWID_FscShort="002D0065" name="Road Map North America PREMIUM 2022-2". Rest is garbage. If you want, you can use name="Road Map North America PREMIUM (USB) 2022-2" instead, but it makes no difference.

Thanks brother, downloaded the new V1.91, and edited the XML accordingly and now shows 2022-2. Map is transferring to USB at turtle speed... will give it a try tomorrow. Thanks again for all you do for us!!
