If it is your hard drive you will have to clone it and copy everything to the new drive, so don't leave it too long or the hdd might fail completely with no way to recover the data. Try upgrading to an SSD

Hard drive has nothing to do with CIC system, had done this issue time ago with CIC from F10.

In the CIC bios or whatever you wish to call it. Like all computers...

Evening
Yep I get bios/cmos chip on the board whatever you want to call it. My system always starts and works so I can browse I drive menu, listen to radio etc until it restarts. The morning thing is playing up also now so it's random if it works or not. The strange thing is I seem to be able to start nav but my music collection doesn't show then restarts. As soon as it shows my music collection all works fine as usual and music plays perfectly.

If this was my pic I would be formatting and doing a clean install including all drivers. I guess I would worry there was a hardware issue causing the restarts. If a bios problem how do I flash that??

I will plug in dis or rheingold and see what it says. I really want to know if anyone with cic (not ccc or nbt) has had a problem and what can be done if not the hard drive??

Ista/d doesn't show you anything. You can't flash this CIC in that condition as is very risky job. The only way to repair it is replace two flash chips and reprogram on bench. Depends of chip and workmanship quality you "may" get back CIC in full working order.
In my opinion you should start looking for second hand CIC, reprogram it, load original FSC and code back to car.

Hi.

Just for people searching on google and have this problem with their CIC iDrive.
I managed to solve the problem.
The issue was the optic fiber cable that connected the iDrive. Because of this cable issue the iDrive kept restarting. Once replacing this cable the issue is fixed and my iDrive no longer restarts.

Google for a BMW e90 or e92 fiber cable for CIC. The cable has an orange color and is a fiber cable. Don't get a too long cable and be careful with not bending the cable because it's not a normal electric cable, fiber cables cannot have kinks in the cable or they will not work.

Good luck.

Kraisen is correct about the most loop being a cause.

2real4u has it wrong though.

While the firmware is stored in flash nvram and does contain graphics etc... a failing hard drive WILL cause the system to boot repeatedly.

The hard drive when present is used to cache all audio streams including radio.

It also hosts upload music, navigation maps, etc.

You can run the CIC without the HDD with limited functionality. And removal of a dying drive will often stop the reboots if they are HDD related.

Bad sectors cause the HDD to stop and continuously seek those sectors hanging up the CIC. After too much of a delay it reboots.

I’m having a similar problem with my older (CCC I believe) system.

I wanted to post a thread to ask about it, but it said I had to make a reply first so here we are!

I hope you get to the bottom of your issues!

There is and idrive subforum here.
The Disk Drive on those is a common failure if you
have the DVD based Nav.

Hi Kraiden,

Just to confirm, are you referring to the MOST Fiber Optic Cable jumper cable like the one below to determine which module in the MOST loop is at fault?

Or is there a break in the fiber cables themselves which we should look out for?

Thanks
