2. My LED bulbs have arrived for the angel eyes although the seller sent the wrong ones the only difference is an extra lip with screwhole on the sides.

3. I have ordered a few bits (mainly brackets) from coopers but they have gone on to backorder. I did read above that those parts are not available anymore but they were still listed so hopefully I can get them that way. If not then it looks like more trips to the scrappy.

4. I have found the correct pins to use for the level sensors and the bi xenon wire in the footwell module.

Alex, when you got your wiring harness, did it plug into empty holes on the footwell module or did you have to splice existing wires? I haven't checked my module yet to see if there are wires occupying the necessary pins. If there aren't existing wires then it looks like I'll be making my own loom at this rate!

Dave
Hi there,

If you use the loom available from bmw there is no cutting or splicing required.

The loom comes with clips/pins on each end of the wires and plugs into existing connectors on the frm and headlights etc so no cutting required.

Obviously, this can be replicated if you decide to make your own loom.

The only cutting and splicing that makes the job easier would be for the secondary earth for the ballasts and the bi-xenon function.

I will try and dig out all my information i have on this for installation and wiring diagrams and email them to you( if you PM me Your email address)

Thanks

Hi,

In post #16 you said that the loom seems to have been discontinued by BMW, but I have ordered a 'wiring kit' part which appears to correspond to the correct part number. It cost around £30 I think.

If this is the part then great, if not it looks like I'll be returning it and making my own.

I have all the pins extracted from an old connector to make the necessary connections at the headlights, i.e. the extra earth point and the bi-xenon wire.

I found a PDF with instructions for the retrofit and also a wiring diagram with the same pin numbers on it for the level sensors so I know what fits where. Thanks all the same. My main bugbear being getting hold of either a: the wiring loom or b: getting the correct pins to make my own! :-)

If you ordered the loom as above and bmw can supply this then your bmw dealer is great!

Mine said it doesn't exist! So I will have to check or ask you kindly to order me one and I'll pay you!

If you have the above loom this includes a section for headlights and level sensors so won't need to adapted the headlights for earth or bi-xenon as it's included !

It's a waiting game now as the order is shipped!
I also ordered the brackets/rods for the sensors but not the bolts as I can get them from B&Q, first they went on back order, but the order status changed this morning to shipped as well!!

If the loom is as I hope then I'll let you know and no problem to order another one. If not, looks like I may be returning it!

Edit: I wired in the angel eye leds yesterday into the headlights and they work great, did take a photo but left the cam at home.

That's the number. I sincerely hope it's the right part.
I ordered it from Cooper BMW Parts yesterday, shipped today!

Costs approx £40 inc delivery.

Parcel arrived today and I can confirm IT IS THE CORRECT PART!

It must be a well kept secret, it's not listed on realoem and not really advertised, but the loom is available separately. It took me ages to track that down.

The brackets have arrived so I only need a couple nuts/bolts and the last sensor :-)

Correct :-) it's the proper aftermarket xenon loom.

It listed as 'Wiring Set' with the part number Alex listed above.

I thought I'd order it after I found it listed on an American site, so tried the same mfr code on Cooper parts and fortunately it worked!

Perfect!

It is now hidden within a full retrofit kit including headlights etc!

So the loom needs to be ordered separately from the above number I stated!

Glad it's the right one! Will order that tomorrow!

I've just spent the best part of the day fitting the loom. The back bit was ok, but the wheel arch liner needs to be removed. Fitted the rear sensor too.

Then I started on the front loom. Earth points attached no problem, then spent about 30 mins trying to remove one of the plastic grommets for the bi-xenon wire from the light socket. I ended up poking a small needle through the other end. Grommets removed I pushed in the earth connector, easy. Pushed in the bi-xenon connector and it just would not 'click' and I nearly ruined the wire.

In the end I had a spare headlight socket so I removed a small connector from that and used that instead which pushed in easily, then I cut off the old connector and spliced the wires together. Not my original choice but the small connectors for pin 5 on the loom just would not go in.

Just something to look out for if others will be doing the same job!

Pictures up tomorrow!

I haven't even wire up the FRM yet, but I've got the wires as far as the drivers footwell.

Should get the front sensor sometime this week and should be a 30 min job since the connector is already there!

Then it's a case of fitting the lights and coding!

Just made a new thread showing my install progress for the xenon conversion.

I think I've hi-jacked this thread enough times!

I now have all part numbers for this and information updates as my retrofit is now complete!

I will do this shortly when I'm infront of a computer rather than my phone!
