Battery Replacement

My 2013 335i xDrive has the original battery from Feb 2013. That battery was manufactured by Varta. They no longer manufacture or distribute car batteries in the USA so I can't get a Varta which has lasted eight years!

The label on the Varta battery show:
BMW S: 61 21 7 604 820
AW: 61 21 7 604 819
12V 90ah 720 A (EN)
160 RC 720 CCA (SAE)

I am pretty sure that is not an AMG battery. Can anyone recommend a comparable battery that can be purchased in the USA?

I checked posts to this forum back eighteen months and didn't find any discussion of replacement batteries.

Anything from a Autozone or Advance will work fine. If it goes bad you can exchange it at any store. There are only like 3 or 4 car battery manufacturers in the US so most of them come from the same place. I got mine from AC Delco on sale.

Thanks for the info. I have an E92 and my research suggests that I have a "flooded" non-AGM battery.

Easiest way to really tell is based on the color of your battery if it's still OE. Black = AGM, white = flooded. There should be a little sight window on the flooded battery that indicates if it's still good or not too, so that will also help identify it.

Either way, AGM is a great way to go if you can program your car for it. If not, snag a flooded of the same amp hours from any auto parts store, register it and you'll be on your way. If it goes bad, you can head to that auto parts store in any location to swap it. The convenience of it is way worth it.

One time I had a bad brand new battery from another manufacturer and had to swap it out. I called a bunch of places just to try and swap it if they had it in stock. Huge pain. Ended up going to another car dealership of all places to get it warrantied cause they sold it there.

You can even put a 70 amp hour battery in it if you want. You will just have to code the IBS and then register the battery.

Simplest thing to do though, is to find the same battery type with same sizing because it's a simple plug and play. You will still have to register the battery through a software.

This is the most correct answer.

- You can replace with whatever battery you want
- Must register the battery after replacement
- You can put in the Ah when doing so.

If you feel you do not have the tools, this can be done with a cheapo Bluetooth adapter and any current phone (i think the app is like $10??)
