2007 E91 Key Fob Issue

Hi,
I've got a 2007 E91 with a non replaceable key fob battery.
These last couple of days its stopped working & the warning light is on the dash, I've tried to charge it on a toothbrush charger but no luck (if that is even a thing) I've been using the key to get in.

Last night & this morning it both unlocked & locked the car with the fob & no warning light on the dash, I get to work & its not working again.

I have ordered a new battery off Ebay just incase

So is it the fob battery failing or could it be something else?

Also my N/S footwell light flickers on/off as I drive, but thats probably a loose connection

Cheers

Are you asking if bad luck is a thing?

Yes it is and you get plenty with these cars!

Sounds to me like your battery in the fob is knackered and cannot hold a charge. They do not last forever and it is likely to be 14 years old this year.

You just need to source a new battery which it sounds like you have done and solder it in. It is not a difficult job.

Just make sure the new battery is rechargeable and not the normal single use coin cell that many fobs take.

Ha ha , i meant the toothbrush charger

Yeah I have a battery on its way to me, I just wanted to make sure it couldn't be anything else.

I had that with the spare key I rarely use, it took a few long runs using that key before it recharged enough to stop the light. All good now.

Have you got a spare key?

New genuine ones direct from BMW aren't mega money, I think mine was £180. Easier than being stranded.
