What about tire pressures on aftermarket rims/tires?
Once you replace your stock rims/tires with aftermarket ones, what do you do about adjusting tire pressures? Do you still run the stock pressures? If you go plus one (19"), how does that affect the PSI you should be running? I am getting 19"s with TPMS installed. I know I will need to reset the sensors once they are installed, but how do I know at what pressure to inflate them?

Sidewall of the tire will have max pressures usually and manufacturer website will often have some inflation guidelines.
Here's Goodyears take, So yeah, they recommend BMWs guidlines... Quote:

I understand that, I was just wondering if adjustments should be made when you change the tire/wheel size from stock (like going from stock 18's to aftermarket 19's). Does that require a change of recommended pressures?

No I wouldn't think so, though again I would check the sidewall just to make certain that the pressures you intend to run or are specified by BMW jive.

I run 40 psi on my 19's. The higher preasure helps control the low profile sidewall a little better, and that in turn protects the outer rim a little better.

I understand the notion behind over inflating the tires to protect the wheels, but when performance and ride comfort are the goals??? I dunno, I'll be running whatever is on the door jamb. I ran it with my 19"DPEs with great success and great feel, so yeah.

On my E93 I use 36/39 psi F/R as per door sticker recommendation for 19" wheels, even though I am using 235/275 non-RFT instead of 225/255 RFT as in OEM. I figure that such inflation pressure combination will result in the same contact patch sizes on all 4 tires as in OEM, just shaped differently because of the added width.

40psi won't help your wheel if you hit a pothole. Tried it. Had rim repaired anyway.

Following the recommendations from BMW is okay but the recommendations are for the stock wheels, not aftermarket. After that you do your best.
I usually start at the recommended and then change from there. It is not an exact science since there are always trade-offs and there is no perfect pressure. Higher pressure might protect your tire better, but that is only might. Go with the rec, setting and drive the car, adjust +-1 or 2 psi but keep it reasonable. |

Well try the Air pressures specified in your door jamb. Then adjust to your preference as mentioned above.
Seriously, tire pressures are just about universal. Back in the 90s I was running 36-38 pounds with my old challenger. NOW I run near the same depending on load on a brand new BMW. SO it's nothing new or revolutionary.

Well specifying which code you are talking would help. I am assuming it's the TPMS warning right? If you have i-drive you just need to dig into the "Settings" menu and you'll find a spot there to reset TPMS.
Of you do not have Idrive.... I dunno. But you're owners manual should have the answers.
