Winter tyres & wheels
Hi. I am thinking about getting a set of winter wheels for my 2007 e90 m-sport. Currently I have summer tyres (Bridgestone RE050) on front and rear. 225/45/R17 on front, 255/40/R17 on rear.
I have my eye on some 205 wide and R16 wheels. If I replace the tyres with 205/50/R17 (EDIT: 205/50/R16!) on front and 205/45/R17 (EDIT: 205/45/R16!) on rear it should be the same diameter, narrower (so cheaper to replace and better on snow). All should be hunky-dory right? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks. Last edited by andyz0; 11-06-2013 at 07:43 AM.. |

Given your choices I'd get a square set of 17" wheels with the 225/45/17 all round |

I am hoping someone will say yes that's fine as I've bid and won on them now! :/ Got a reasonable set of genuine BMW alloys with a full set of nearly new conti contacts for £133. Should be able to sell the tyres for more than that so free alloys hopefully. Once I put the winter tyres on then I won't have to keep paying for a garage to take them off and put them on each year! |

Will keep my eyes peeled for some baragin 17 inchers then. Clearly I had considered everything except the internal diameter On the upside they are enough of a bargain that I should be able to re-sell them at a profit, hopefully! Lastly, where are the speed sensors located? If they are 5mm out then this would add about 5% to the apparent speed of the car. If they are on the front, fine, but on rear I'd be better getting 40s not 45s. |

Depends on the model. 16" will sit on four-pot petrols no problem.

Well that puts me in a funny position. There appears to be just under an inch between the caliper and wheel so might be a bit of room. I currently have this style of wheels:
http://www.4wheels.ie/images/thumb_p...0_IMG_1530.jpg The ones I just bought are: http://www.speedshack.com/images/BMW...0OEM%20big.jpg Standard 2-pots I think, front and rear? Standard discs, calipers etc on a 2007 e90 m-sport 320d. Last edited by andyz0; 11-06-2013 at 08:50 AM.. |

They're single-pot calipers. 16" wheels will fit - they were offered as standard on the 320 ED. However, the wheels you have bought are from the E46 with an offset of ET34 whereas your E90 wheels are ET47. They'll fit but they'll be well inside the arches. Spacers would help.

I can proably still tell the chap to try the second highest bidder and I will pay the difference, or is it worth me collecting them and re-selling. I got 4x of those wheels with nearly new Conti Contacts for £133 - Could probably sell for more if I deliver but is it worth it? |

I'd always stick with wheels that were designed for the model.

Will check them out.
Should I still get the e46 wheels and re-sell. Is £133 a good price for 4 of these wheels in average condition with 4x conti contacts nearly new? Will I make a decent price on this do you think? |

After wheels more than tyres TBH. Actually already have 2x 225/45/17 Uniroyal winters with 5 ish mm on them. Just need a set of 4 wheels that fit, don't look awful but are the right offset and size. eBay has plenty - just needs to be the right ones! Ideally the same as mine but might take longer to get those.
Anyone know if it was a bargain I got or not? £133 for 4 of these wheels in average condition with 4x conti contacts nearly new? If it's not that good deal I will see if he will send a next-best bidder offer, but if that's a steal I will re-sell with postage option and good photos on eBay. |

The problem is that the price you paid is likely to be the market price, if they were worth more the seller would probably have got more, unless he was just unlucky of course

Well the listing had a pretty poor title so won't have got many searches, and offered local collection only. The photos were average and didn't have any real specificaiton. I am hoping that if I spend the hour collecting them, sell as a buy it now with good details I might get more... quite a lot more I hope. £133 for a full set of half decent, genuine BMW 16" alloys with good, nearly new tyres seems like a good deal. As I only just won it I could, at a push request that they offer the wheels to the next highest bidder and pay the difference to the seller. I reckon its worth a stab at reselling at them. The missus won't be happy with the 1 hour trip on the way to visit somewhere to pick up wheels that don't fit my car

Look for a set of 156 alloys. 17" and can usually get a set for under £200. I've been running mine for years now Across both the 320d and 335d.
