Clutch Issue - Metal Part Snapped?!?!

Hi all

I am hoping someone can help! Having just picked up my car today from getting new alloys fitted, I had a weird issue where my my clutch stuck. It suddenly stuck but when I put my foot down to try and change gear, a piece of metal then snapped off and now the clutch is extremely loose. Just shelled out near £1,399 on new wheels and some tyres, please tell me this isn't something too serious?

Thanks

Garage List
Where did you find that lump of metal? In the drivers footwell?

Looks like part of the supporting bracket for the pedal assembly(brake pedal/cluch pedal) I could be wrong but the way it's sheared off looks like a stress fracture.

It's tucked up fairly high in the footwell area seen VW's hsve this issue, haven't to be fair seen if it's this a BMW of this age with this issue.

Cheers Steve, you're probably right as the pedal now feels quite loose. Any idea if this is easy to repair/costly?

Thanks

Found a picture. No1 in the picture looks to me to be about right. You can just make out the shape which was whst I thought straight away when you posted that picture up as I've seen this on VW's before where psrt of the pedal assembly fractures.

http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E9...helper_spring/

I've got no real idea on BMW's re this sort of repair but in the VW's thst have had this issue its about a 2 and a bit hour job partly down to the lack of reasonable access.

I can't quite make out from the picture how youve matched my picture, but I'll take your word for it, cos I don't have a scooby. Cheers Steve. Is the car still safe to drive temporarily and will I need a new part or can this just be welded? Thanks again Steve, dunno what I would do without forum members like yourself

Steve, based on your comments, I found this on eBay which refers to the same part number in your picture. Is this what you mean?

matty re your car I don't have a clue what model you've got (guessing its a 320d based on the colour pic you've supplied for the breaking car part)but if you look at the circled pic below this is what I though I was looking at so don't take the pic link I placed as 100% guaranteed as I don't know the spec age car you have as its not mentioned.

Re if your's is the right part again diffocult as I don't know the car model you've got as its not stated the pic above isa 320d 2009 model but its a pure guide only based on a hunch but if its in the drivers foot well area its kind of as guilty of being the offending part as a puppy is sitting next to a big pile of pooh

Thanks Steve, loved the big pile of pooh analogy! Yep spot on, my car is a 320d e93 2009 plate. Looking at the part you've circled, I see what you mean now in the top right. I think based on your sound knowledge and the above, you're right as to the problem. What's your advice? Repairable? Safe to drive still?

Looks like the alloy casting of the pedal box itself.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E90-3-...item5d590964be

I wouldn't be driving it without having done some inspection, you might find the master cylinders just floating around loose being held in place only by its hydraulic line for instance, and continuting to use it could cause more damage. Unless you can get under there and make sure its just the overcentre spring thats come loose, and the spring isnt mashing against anything else.

The bracket will probably be mega money from BMW, but theres a couple on ebay for 30-40quid so get one of those and get it swapped out.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Will get it looked at later and provide an update. Stupid question, but the part you have linked from eBay is for an e90 . . . will this for an e93 d'ya know? Ta

No Link, not listed on net, was just data from BMW Dealer ETK system, so you had a rough idea of cost, if you just walked into a BMW parts dept and ordered a new one.
