Just did it on my E91 - success I can change gears even when in D (Alpina software). However I think I broke my slip ring - it gives a click sound every revolution now. :/ Damn!

Edit: One very peculiar thing; When I first drove it, it was pulling right, just like when you have a flat tire and when i drove about 50km/h I could feel that it tried to brake just slightly every 0.5 second or so.
I think it was the ESP that was trying to "get to drive straight" since the steering angle sensor has been reset when I disconnected the battery. After I reset the steering angle sensor - it went away.

Does anyone know which steering wheel will work that has the paddles with the Burger Motorsports wiring harness? I'm waiting for it to be delivered but I want to order the steering wheel and have it when the harness gets here. My car is a 2008 335i convertible with NAV..

So there's 2 wires that go from the steering column to the shifter. Can anyone please note which wire goes to the blue at the shifter and which goes to the blue/yellow at the shifter?

Thanks

To answer my own question, the yellow/black wire at the steering column needs to be connected to the blue/yellow wire at the shifter and the yellow/white wire needs to be connected to the blue/grey wire.

Could You find some pics to show about it; I'm going to start the retrofit on 330xd, but after millions of reading pages on this subject I am a bit stuck with this section, still.
I mean, cutting the wires on the colum it's a bit unclear wihic ones and open the connector itself.

Thanks.

Thanks, but that doesn't answer my question about adding paddles to a non-paddled M-Sport steering wheel.

I love this diy and I am planning on purchasing a wheel with paddles on eBay and performing this upgrade. My question is, with all the acronyms flying around, which paddles do i need to be looking for? I see the wheels with chrome looking paddles and that is the direction I am leaning. I assume or better yet am looking for explanation/conformation that these paddles individually on both sides shift up and down??? The two wire paddles, one side shifts down and the other up??? Any clarification would be appreciated.

I have an E88 which is pre-LCI (2008) and currently the wheel doesn't have paddles. I bought an E90 steering wheel from ebay with SSG paddles and according to Burger Motorsports their harness will not work with the wheel I have bought unless I upgrade the steering wheel controls - I should have researched this better I guess as their website says "SSG and E chassis DCT paddles (shown below) will require part # 61319123287."
Well, part number 61319123287 costs $200+ and as I have already spent $150 on the wheel the cost of this is starting to spiral, especially as that BMW part number only allows me to use the BMS harness adapter which is a further $99.

Question is, can I use the DIY that the OP posted without having to buy either the new steering wheel controls (613196123287) or the BMS adapter kit ?

Does anyone know the answer before I pull this all apart for nothing ?

Hi,which year is your E91 ,on my 330xi pre-lci they didnt work on D and i am wondering how that can be changed.
Did you wire them to the jumpbox or just followed the retrofit guide from here?

Tnx

Question

It seems a bulk of information in this thread, like many other paddle shifter DIY threads, target pre-LCI 06 - 09 cars either installing pre-LCI paddles or retrofitting LCI paddles into their cars.

However I could not find any info on LCI 2010 and 2011 cars fitting LCI paddles into cars that did not come with paddle shifters.

Was there a thread or post referencing how to do this this?

Full steering wheel with airbag and heated for $120? I say heated since I know you retrofitted that.

My car came with a non heated sport wheel. I added a non heated paddle sport wheel for $120. Then I got a heated paddle sport wheel for $55 and a heated clock spring for $20.

Heated paddle sport for $55 USD! Wow ... I've been looking for such thing for a while.
Everything I see is ~$300+ without airbag.

January to March is the best time for used parts. I would keep looking around.
