Suggestions for new tires?
We all know that Bridgestone RFT's are not that great for the ride quality and potholes eat them for breakfast lunch and dinner... AND they cost a freakin' FORTUNE to replace!
although all four RFT on my e90 335i is still pretty much brand new, I want to replace them with affordable non-oem tires that can make my car ride smoother and softer... also, I dont want to make desperate turn manuvers to avoid potholes in the streets of LA... yes, i am deathly afraid of them! (so should all of us with RFT's) anyone who has gotten non-oem tires? please share the model, cost and the experience! thank you. |

PS2s because there is no way I'd be happy with a bunch of roll and sloppy turn in just to save a few bucks a month.

I got the "Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus" two weeks ago. The set was $1,100 at Discount Tire. They had a $70 rebate, it has ended, but they offer it several times per year.
Big difference on the ride, it's very quiet now. My car has the sports package and I still feel the stiff suspension, but not as harsh as before. |

I've had two sets of PS2's on my E46 and I've never experienced a better overall tire from grip, looks, to wear rate. I'm not sure that I'll ditch my RFTs either because I've gotten used to the Pirelli P-zero RFTs that came on my stock 19s. I'll probably get these again because performance-wise they are plenty good and the sidewall shape is amazing. Anything really, is better than those awful 18" Bridgestone RFTs that almost every 335i sports.

Then if you want the softest ride, I'd recommend the Conti Extreme DWS - a non RFT all-season tire (throw a 12v compressor & plug kit in the trunk). Your handling won't be as sharp but the ride and traction are very good. Also, the cost is quite low, given the quality & tread wear rating. But you'll still need to avoid the potholes as the problem isn't just the RFTs - it's mainly the 18" wheels and narrow sidewalls. Tom |

And regarding cost, for 4 staggered 17" DWS, I paid $600 - including mounting, balancing and taxes (albeit with a BMWCCA discount)! Tom |

I've still got the Bridgestone RFTs installed, yecch. Do all RFTs track pavement irregularities as closely as the Bridgestones? These tires really seem to follow the slightest grooves in the road.

Currently I run Vredsteins Ultra Sessanta for our wet season due to their great anti-hydroplaning qualities, and then will switch to a better dry ultra-summer tire in a few months. During my 2007 BMW ownership, I have experiences with Nitto Invos, (I like), Nitto NT555 (I don't like), Pirelli PZero RFTs (best RFT i've driven), the a fore mentioned Hankooks (I don't like on my BMW, but I do have them on another GT car which is working well), and may try Bridgestone RE-11 soon. I personally don't see a need for Cont DWS All seasons for 80 degree sunny days, but perhaps they have more tread life than the summers, if that is a concern.
