Power for iPod & Phone at same time?

I ran a search but couldn't find anything so as always I come to the bimmer owners here. I want to hook up my iPod and charge my phone at the same time, but there is only one power outlet in the arm rest. My question is, does the docking cradle for phones plug into this power outlet or does it have a direct line to the power? Also, is the docking cradle worth it? I've heard that Bluetooth will kill your battery life. Are there other power outlets in the car for charging my cell phone? My car is on the PATRIOT and should be in Charleston, SC by 11/27! Can't wait! Thanks for the help!

Yes while your phone is linked to your car via bluetooth more battery power is used. I just hook my phone charger up to the power outlet next to the ashtray.

While I doubt there's enough space in there, you can buy 2:1 or 3:1 power adapters also and feed your ipod and phone at the same time.

It won't look good (rats nest of wires) when you open the compartment, but when closed, who will know?

Yes, BT uses more power - it's basically supporting another wireless link. My E815 went from about 36 hours standby to roughly 24.

Also note that when if you get the phone docking cradle, you will be using the external antenna, which will be better than using the phone's internal antenna. Exactly how much better will vary on a bunch of factors, so it's hard to say, but if you're in a rural area I'd think you'd be better off that way.
