I have the same problem .
I also tried every combo with the 2 wires but nothing . I asked the ones from Burgertuning about this and they said that the paddles WILL work but I need to know how to rewire them . Did you find out something new ? |

finally have these working and they are much nicer to use then the chrome ones, bmw specialist would only say that its not that difficult to do but you have to find someone who has the autologic software, i bought the paddles from nexon motors on ebay, a worthwhile mod

Since the LCI paddles have 2 wires coming out, did you need new MF buttons as well? Or did they plug into your original MF button sockets? Or did you use a harness? |

they plugged straight in but the garage altered the actual wiring in the steering wheel harness wasnt needed. i dont know exactly what he did (dont blame him for keeping it to himself!) but he said you need access to the autologic software to read the signals to the gearchange. at least we know its doeable without too much trouble/expense

Don't the LCI paddles have a + on one and and - on the other, so that you shift up with one paddle and down with the other rather than being able to shift up and down with either???

Yes, which is why they only have two wires. One positive, one ground. The stock paddles have three wires: two positives (one to send the signal to shift up, one for down) and a shared ground. You should be able to very easily change the wiring of the LCI paddles to match the originals.

What got me onto this thread was a search for Nexon Motors. I was looking at their aluminum finish (perlglanz chrome) SSG paddles they were selling. I like them better than the stock chrome ones. These are apparently out of the E71/72 (X6) but are supposed to fit the M Sport and M steering wheels for the E9x. Any experience with these?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E...item19c681b2ca

No experience with the ones you just linked, but I barely see a difference in finish compared to the ones in my car. If I were you, I'd just take the stock ones up and take them somewhere to be sanded and painted/anodized (assuming they're aluminum) to the finish you want. A fine sandblasting and satin clear coat would probably get the look you want. Now that I think about it, maybe I'll redo the silver metal shifter insert, steering wheel trim, and paddles a gloss black to match the piano black interior trim conversion I'm planning on.

I thought it was going to be easy but couldn't get the LCI paddles to work on my M-sport wheel that had the older paddles ... Does anyone know more specifics, I heard coding is NOT required..

I just swapped my chrome paddles for the aluminum (perlglanz chrom) ones from the X6. Man, what a difference that little change makes. They now match the other aluminum accents I put in the interior (M3 speaker covers, door pulls, aluminum step shifter, pedals, M3 ashtray cover, cup holder trim). The only chrome left is on the AC knobs and I'm not quite crazy enough to swap that out...yet.
I now see why you guys like the LCI paddles so much...those chrome things just have to go.

when i installed the lci paddles even trying to rewire them they just would not work, i told nexon motors where i bought them and he sent me another set he said had been modified, i then took them to a bmw independant workshop and he fitted them and they worked. i dont know what nexon did to them or hwhat the workshop did unfortunately. they do work and are much nicer to use. i suggest you contact nexon motors and see if he will help you.

I found some more info from a posting by gizard.
The pre-LCI paddles have 3 wires and the middle one is ground, pushing or pulling the paddle will short one of the outer connections to the middle one (ground) acting as a regular single pole dual throw switch. The LCI paddles however have only two wires and he found that the up shift paddle (marked +) has a 1.18kohms resistance when pressed whereas the downshift paddle has a 0.35Kohm resistance when pressed. Nexon motors does rework on the paddles to make them work. Perhaps they remove the resistors .... I'll have to see if I can open up these LCI paddles and try to rework them..

I just opened pair of the LCI paddle shifters.
each has 2 resisters on the circuit board. Quote:

Ok, cool. Next thing to try is to short out those resistors by
Removing them and replace by a little wire, or just solder a wire Over them (shorting them out). That'll be my weekend project !

Well, my LCI paddles now work
There are actually two resistors in each LCI paddle and they are different in the + versus the - paddle. I made the changes as follows: The LCI - (minus marked) paddle is shown stock here: I removed the middle resistor and shorted the upper resistor with a small wire: Heres the stock LCI + (marked plus_ paddle I removed the middle resistor and shorted the lower resistor with a small wire. Sorry forgat to take a pic of that one, was too excited to go install it Here's the final result, I'm liking the feeling of these paddles much much better and no more confusing push/pull mistakes For some more electronics minded people here, below is the rough (I know) schematic of the LCI minus paddle, this explains why I removed one resistor (the 6Kohm) and shorted the other (0.3Kohm) one. With those mods the switch now acts like the original pre-LCI switch: no more resistance when switch is open and zero resistance when the switch is closed.
