I have BBTB in the mail. I’m wondering if I should do something about the intake manifold opening. BBTB is 80 mm and the manifold opening is 79 mm.

I don’t think so the BBTB is actually 79.5mm when I measured it. And it’s restricted somewhat by the butterfly also so likely still doesn’t flow better than that manifold opening at 78mm

Wouldn't the air hitting that "shelf" created by the smaller manifold orifice create undesirable turbulence? Maybe use a Dremel or other sanding rotary tool to create more of a "ramp" at the "corner" of the manifold opening so that the air can more smoothly funnel in?

Based on my measurement you are talking about a shelf that’s 1/4mm wide. At that width the radius of that manifold corner may already seem like a ramp.

It shouldn't hurt anything to port the manifold a bit but it's not something I would spend my time on.

I will probably use dremel. I was just wondered if anybody did the same. N53 is probably more sensitive to TB than N52.

I dont think its neccesary at all. For all the time, effort and mess it will make - its unlikely to make any difference.

Yes I do think the adaptations were an issue. From what I’m seeing now it seems BBTB is pulling comparable to the stock in the midrange and making more power up top.

Also wanted to add the TB codes I had never came back after I reset adaptations. And I’ve been doing some hard pulls and a few quarter mile runs so that seems to be all fixed up as far as I can see.

I just swapped the o-ring from my original TB. It’s not a part that sees any heat or fluids so I don’t see any reason not to reuse it. It was still soft and perfectly fine as far as I could tell.

Depending on mileage the old one may not provide full seal. For $8 it’s cheap insurance.

I know a guy who knows a guy who has a buddy that knows a guy who can bore a TB with a drill press. Not really, ha.

I do have another machinist friend that I use and he bores my Jeep 4.0L throttle bodies from 55mm to 62mm. He bead blasts the housing and makes the blades and bores the bodies.
I have 2 spare N52 throttle bodies now. I will ask him if he can do these also. He will just have to make another fixture for the lathe.

Anybody else have any spare TBs laying around?
Anybody else interested in a 80mm N52 TB for less than Riot's $350?

This is a great idea! Also the WCR has the center butterfly shaft cut down to half (semi circle profile instead of circular) and loses the reinforcement ridges on the throttle plate.

Since the throttle body is wide open all the time I feel that those mods might be worthwhile with yours also to increase flow.

Also I’m pretty sure the N54 TB is an easy big bore swap if you can get one with the matching plug. My WCR Big Bore bolted right up to the N54 manifold so I see no reason a N54 TB would not fit a N52 manifold.

Plug is the same - they are compatiable, but you have to seal off that vent coming off the side. Should be 78? Mm to our 76mm

The earlier N52 used a different plug than the later N52 and N54.
