LCI trunk..now I need to paint it!!!!

moved from General E9X sub-forum

I just picked up my LCI trunk today and now I need to paint it. I live in the San Fernando Valley if anyone can recommend any places. Anyways, I was wondering does the paint need to be OEM BMW paint? I've heard its all about the paint code and some places don't use OEM paint but its exactly the same ? Also how long should I wait to 3M tape a Performance spoiler on?

I'm not looking to spend more then $400. A lot of shops told me you need to color blend it but it isn't totally necessary (they quoted me almost a grand) The trunk shell came primed from a dealership. I have a couple of friends and family members who know places but I want to do more shopping around before I pick a shop.

Here's a picture..I've got the tails and trunk, I hear everything else is transferable. If not I'll pick some stuff off. Oh btw SGM Pre-Lci Trunk for sale

I can see why they have to color blend it, that color isn't easy to match perfectly without blending it.

my buddy owns a high end paint shop her in nor-cal and he tells all his customers looking to get things painted that color code does not always mean the exact same color. depending on brand, sun exposure, and various other factors the color can change. I believe its best to bring the whole car in to at least color match.

Makes sense. But at least they paint the trunk itself before blending it. So if it's extremely off I'll go ahead and color blend. But if it's all good then there's no need. Thanks for the info!

so is their a particular company or someone who can match my paint, because the paint that they mixed by the color code is way off, and i just need the paint, i know a few good people who paint.
