Be aware that some of the coding features don't work unless you use the "genuine" BMWhat WIFI adapter.
Just saw your other post, if it's just for diags and clearing error codes, that seemed to work fine for me with a generic WIFI adapter. Good luck! |

Thanks Marshall / Andy
looks interesting, I've never used any kind of fault code reader before, although I have done lots of mechanical repairs and car / motorcycle engine rebuilds it was in the days before the e.c.u. ruled the world I have now got the lite version on the phone for starters, but just before I go and order the Bluetooth obd adapter.... is this phone app , better than just buying a stand alone code reader ? thanks for helping, Katie |

I downloaded the BMWhat app for Android at the weekend. Works perfectly on my car with a USB OTG cable connected to an OBD cable used for INPA / DIS. I used it with a Nexus 7 tablet.
The only thing I am not sure about is the logging function i.e. it appears to be able to monitor and store logs of up to 6 parameters (engine oil temp, coolant temp, speed, DPF pressure etc). Does anyone know how to use the information stored within the log file i.e. read into Excel?

Sorry - hadn't spotted this - yes. Any otg cable with full size female usb at one end and micro usb male at the other will suffice.

hi All
just to update I now have the whatapp up and running, it took a little longer than expected as I first made the mistake of buying the wrong obd wifi adapter, there are different types to suit iphone / android phones the app is very easy to use even for a complete novice like me, I've been able to clear codes and sort out the problem I was having with bulb failure warnings now if anyone had told me all those years ago I would be fixing a car with a telephone ............. regards Katie |
