JL 12w6v2-D4 ported/sealed vs SBP15 infinite baffle setup

As you may have seen from an earlier thread, I'm looking for something to replace my SBP15 that has more punch. I was leaning towards the Fi Q or IB3, but then my buddy just gave me his JL Audio 12w6v2-D4 (not sure how drunk he was lol). So now I'm a bit at a crossroad. I don't believe the JL will perform well in an infinite baffle setup due to its higher Qtc with this car.

Will a single 12" w6v2 give me the additional kick over the SBP15 if I put it in a sealed or ported setup? I was considering using the ski pass through as a port, but I'm not sure if that's optimal. I don't want to corner load it, because my golf clubs won't fit in the trunk then. I'm open for suggestions while keeping space in my trunk reasonable since I carry a spare tire. Thoughts?

I can always put it in my wife's car, but I've always like the w6v2.

12w6 works great IB. Ask BuickGN. One sub won't get crazy loud, but I think it will pack more punch than the AE. Easy to try out anyway I guess. To get the max out of it, you're right about the ported box. I would build it similar to what bmw325i did.

Yes, he's a member here, too. If you want to go ported for max volume (SPL vs SQ), either make a box or use a pre-fabed one, but you need to make sure you can "fire" both the sub and the port through the ski-pass, and the front of the box needs to be sealed off against the seat, i.e. the sound waves from the sub and the port are forced through the ski-pass and cannot enter the trunk.

If you ask me, sell the W6 and get this:

http://www.woofersetc.com/p-7449-id1...subwoofer.html

or this:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...-GTO1514D.html

2 for under $200!!! Lots of positive reviews on these in IB installs. Can't go wrong with either the ID or JBL.

lol, too many choices. I remember the old school IDQ's well, though I recall liking the JL better - I could be wrong though. I've never heard the GTO, but I've always loved JBL drivers. I'm still mad at myself for not picking up a GTi while they were still being made. I'm actually really surprised they stopped production of them since it was so amazing and made for such a long time. Would one 15" of either one have significantly more output than the AE? I really don't have much desire to run 2 of them.

And didn't ID suffer some quality and customer service issues once ____ left the company? I've been out of the car audio game for too long...

Well they made the IDMax which is my favorite SQL sub of all time. Can't really go wrong with either one of the above I would think, price is right and both are known to work well in IB. If you need a single SQL monster sub that does everything well then get the IDMax, or even a used Gti, or if you want just a tad more than the AE I'm sure either the ID15 or the GTO will do just fine. From what I've read about the FI IB3's, I'd stay away. I'm sure there are other brands/models that may work, but if you ask me I'd stick with what has been proven to work. Many useful threads over at DIYM_A.

Funny - I just revisited an old thread I had on DIYMA from a nearly three years ago, and apparently it was recently revived, and BuickGN posted in it a few weeks ago. I need to pick his brain!
