Trouble setting up BimmerGeeks Cable

Hoping there is a simple fix to this issue. I’m new to coding and trying to set up my bimmergeeks k dcan cable with the bmw V3 Coding Lite VM I am using. Under device manager, there is no “ports” category in the tree. I think this is what I need to configure unless I am mistaken. USB serial devices is a category at the very bottom but doesn’t let me change COM settings. Does the cable need a driver which isn’t included? Any ideas?

Do you have the cable plugged in to a USB port on your laptop when you try this?

I hate to ask the obvious,

Have you contacted Bimmergeeks?

Definitely a valid question. I called them yesterday when I was having trouble getting the cable to work with INPA. They said to change the COM settings which sent me down this rabbit hole. I wanted to check here to make sure there wasn’t something rudimentary I was missing before calling them again but that’s probably the route I’ll have to go now.

You should see something like this in your device manager.

If you are using a VM, you will may need to enable t USB port on the VM

Correct. It is a Mac that I am using the VM to run Windows in.

Well I can’t believe I missed this. Not in the VM itself but in the Oracle VMware settings which I could configure from my Mac, I did not have “USB Serial Ports” checked as an option. Switched it on and got the VM to recognize/see the port. It auto installed a driver, then I changed the port settings to COM1 and latency to 1 as advised. But... INPA still won’t recognize the car as being connected.

EDIT: Bimmergeeks hopped on a screenshare with me and fixed it in 30 seconds. The Ediabis.ini file needed to have the connection type changed.
