Yes, i've done it for free. If you have an OBD cable it's a matter of 5 minute coding.
Attached the DIY (only works on CIC-equipped cars)

ps: i must warn you that VIM is highly distracting while driving, so be careful!

Nah, just buy the cable and code it.
Less of a hassle.
Be careful though, because I get VERY distracted hahhaa.

i'm Gonna leave it... I don't understand the coding, so not going to mess with it. I saw videos on youtube, were they inserted a disc into the cd player and it "coded" itself.

I appreciate the view expressed in terms of the money but I purchased the software off a company in the UK (I am in Australia) and downloaded it to make the disk, inserted the disk into the CDDVD player in the dash and within 2 minutes all done. it works fantastic. I also have the disk in case I want to change it back or if the car ever gets a full recoding by the Stealer I just put the disk in again.

You are right on the price but I went for the ease of knowing I couldn't stuff it up and the disk is coded to my VIN number of the car.

Just an alternative view….

Thanks

Does this work for 2009 US models?

Can this work on a 2009 335i M Sport model that has nav, sat and smart phone integration? I know I can play DVDs but only sound when moving.

That's the whole point of coding the vim, so you can watch dvds while moving. I believe it's possible for all makes/models that have dvd player.
