Transmission fluid leak

Recently I found oil on the garage floor so I brought the car to my mechanics to look at it, and he found out...

Transmission pan leak!!!

Looks like it's a common problem of E90. My mechanics told me I am the second E90 owner who got this problem in this week.

The worst is not over... my warranty expired 2 months ago

Cost approx. $800 to fix

If you haven't already done so, check out this other thread regarding other types of E90 oil leaks...

Also re-check your warranty entitlement, just in case. A couple of members (including Bliss in the other thread) had recently been told that their "2 year" warranty had expired, whereas in fact they were entitled to a 3 year warranty. Luckily the warranty mistake was corrected and the problem was fixed under warranty.

3 year warranty was introduced in Oz on 1 March 2006. Prior to that, standard warranty was 2 years.

When did u get ur e90? Just ask dealership anyway. Regardless of the warranty period, u should tell them to cover some of the cost to fix it under good will cos it is not something that u would expect to play up in 3 -4 years. Having a good relationship with service department at ur dealership also helps but I would still ask them.

good luck

I got 3yr warranty

I did contact my dealer but the reply was No

anyway it's all fixed now, the pan alone was $455 + gearbox oil + labour

then I made my mechanics changing all brake rotors + pads

altogether just under $2000

still save alot

Congrads. BMW stuff up our car detail when we made a claim on our 530d regarding air-con button. They later on found out that there was system error and we did in fact have 3 years warranty. I think there are few other guys who brought their car in 2006 who also had the same problem.

Good thing it is all sorted.

Make sure they changed the mechatronics sealing sleeve at the same time to prevent hassle down the road.
