Unhappy N54 335i Fitted Charge Pipe with BOV - No Boost

Good evening. Really need some help.
Got back from holiday yesterday and not back until tomorrow so thought id have a go at fitting my new vrsf charge pipe with tial bov.
The install guides didn't look too tricky.
It took me a lot longer than I thought it would and ive just taken it for a drive and there is no power or boost.
I wasn't expecting problems and ive got to drive to work in the morning so any suggestions would be helpful.
I tried using the search feature but kept getting redirected.
Anyone had similar issues?

have you checked and connected all the little hoses properly and blanked off the re circulation pipes - only thinks I can think of.
Also I think there was a right and wrong way to fit the tial or at least a part in it. Sorry just going by memory here

Ok so I took off the tial BOV and refitted it. Took it for a drive and just as bad.
The MAP sensor was plugged in because I couldn't get it to unplug when I was removing the original charge pipe.
Ive got a Cobb Accessport fitted so ran a datalog this time.
What is the best way to get it on here so that someone who knows what they are looking at could give me their thoughts.

Could this be from a damaged TMAP sensor? Struggled to get it out from the original charge pipe and then struggled getting it to go in the new one.

It only showing a code that I already knew about that has been there since I installed the cobb.
This is really frustrating as the car was running great prior to today.
Don't really fancy limping it all the way to work tomorrow.

Does the Cobb use the tmap sensor in the same way as the jb4? If so are you able to see air intake temp? If you can then you can probably rule out the tmap sensor and look for a physical leak.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious and don't want to sound patronising!

1) when you installed the pipe did you install the large rubber washer in the pipe that connects to the throttle body and are you happy with its fitment?
2) meth bung is in place ?
3) as par Sparky68 check connections from FMIC to throttle.
4) I presume the bov is closed?

Good luck mate cheers Russ

When my charge pipe was fitted the first run blew off the rubber elbow. Might have happened to you. Maybe it's slipped off at the back or something similar where you can't see a gap.

Ok so i did have the newly supplied VRSF O-Ring in the chargepipe when i connected it with the c-clip. The connection i am not happy with but research on the web suggests that it doesnt connect as tight as one would think it should.
With the vacuum hoses i presume you mean the 1/8" lines that ran to a 3-way adapter? Well the hose that comes from behind the throttle body is now connected to the top of the BOV via a supplied 1/4" to 1/8" adapter. The two other lines that used to join the 3 way adapter are no longer in there as they were removed with the hosing that previously connected to the now plugged bybass valve tube connections.
Cant even take photos because i lost my phone on holiday.
Is it possible to check the FMIC connections without getting it on a ramp?
Thanks for the input so far guys. Much appreciated.

Hey WM, would it make a difference? The BOV replaces all the recirculation system on the charge pressurised side? Not using the blanking covers would mean you are sucking in unfiltered air on the unpressurised intake side of the turbo? Agreed, this isn't right but I can't imagine this would impact pressure post turbo?

Unfortunately it will not be easy to see anything without a ramp, you will need to remove the engine shield to have a proper look. I'm guessing something obvious will become apparent but if not a smoke test would probably be a quick way to determine where your leak is.

Can you borrow a camera and take a few close ups of the install including the BOV? You never know

Cheers Russ

I will try and get hold of a camera tonight.
I'm going to re-install it all one more time from scratch.

I have never seen an aftermarket charge pipe other than the one that re-uses the stock DV's. So I don't really know what happens to the recirculation inlets.

Op. Use this image to check all your connections.
You will need to get under the car and get the skid guard off to check the intercooler.

I think that may be your problem. U need to blank off the recirculation openings. The fact its recirculation would suggets its both pre and post turbo in terms of the air flow

Smile

The recirculation holes were blanked off with the caps and clips provided.
I took it all off last night and started again but this time from the throttle body end first.
With only that end in place i was able to get a much better connection with the c-clip.
Finished installing the rest of it and took it out for a drive.
Finally had boost but once i gave it some beans and and boost hit 15 psi off popped the smaller end of the rubber elbow so i reattached it and tightened everything even more.
Havent been WOT on the way to work today but it hasnt come off so far.
So basically it was my own fault for not ensuring the connection was as it should of been from the off.
Thanks for all your help anyway guys. It was much appreciated.

Fit everything loose to start with. Give it all a good wiggle so everything settles in a comfortable position, then nip it all up. My VRSF charge pipe fitted better than the oem one. Takes a bit of fiddling to get it nailed on tho.
