Missing Piece from my trunk

Hey everyone,

Just purchased my 2009 335i coupe about 2 weeks ago and love it. Was looking in my trunk and noticed when I lift up that little black handle I have a small storage bin. However, its all exposed plastic and seemed to look like something was missing. Well I looked in the trunk of a 2007 or 2008 335xi (pictured below) and there "storage area" has a nice insert piece. Was this stopped in 2009 or am I just missing it? I called several local dealers and they all say that they are unsure of what I am talking about. I looked on realoem.com and the diagram points out this piece BUT, its not listed on the bottom (part #7)

My neighbor also is missing this piece she has a 2009 328i coupe

What it should look like I believe

Lift up that insert and this is what my trunk looks like

Welcome to the cost cutting on the the newer 3 series cars (2009+, sometimes varies with production date, etc.) Gone are flashlights, toollkits, pockets on the back of the front seats, dipsticks, etc.

Yea under that trunk panel in my car it's just a black empty void. No tools or anything. It's not even big enough to put a spare donut in. I just use it to store my own emergency kit that I put together - first aid, blanket, flashlight, jumper cables, etc.

Thanks for that! Was thinking It was stolen - dealer also has no clue about this part when I give them the last 7 of my VIN. I bet if I gave an older vin I would be able to get this, not sure of fitment though.

I got a screwdriver and a tow hook that came in my joke of a "tool kit" when I got my car from the dealer. They actually went around and took these from other used cars because mine didn't have them, had to almost force them to do it. But no mould for under the trunk floor. It's amazing what they decided to cut out on the 2009+ models I mean what were they thinking?

Damn I like the little bucket space in the 08 I have. Really comes in handy for some stuff you don't want rolling around back there. They cutting everything out it seems.. What the heck are you supposed to store under that floor lining?

I think the deep bucket space is only in the 328s (due to the exhaust differences).

My neighbor has a 328 and hers looks a lot different believe it or not. Both 2009s. I mean im not crying over the missing piece but it would be nice.

My tool kit has a tow hook, screw driver and some nut thing, possibly a wheel lock - not sure.

My left hand side is missing the book - yes i didnt get a book. I might order one for 70 but not sure if this is something i really need.

It's not "missing", it's an accessory offered by BMW, when I purchased a E92 328i in 2009, my salesperson went to the parts desk and asked for it and threw it in as a courtesy along with the carpet and all season floor mats. They come with the options of having dividers you can use to partition the whole into separate compartments for your stuff. It was offered on the BMW accessories website, but the photo has disappeared, here is the link: http://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/78...GE-COMPARTMENT.

I got to say this is actually a great piece to have, makes the car look more refined when you lift the trunk

Here's a link from someone else who has bought (or gotten one with delivery) and is selling it: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=509330

That's your conceal carry storage area so when you enter states that forbid driving with a CCW there is a nice place to put it

I have the deep bin (328) and also got it missing the carpet insert. Super annoying.
