Construct Auto-Terrible fitment + customer service

My body shop has spent the last week trying to get this bumper to fit..Its almost like the bumper was not made for an e90..as you can see underneath, there is a 6 inch gap between the bumper and underhood shield, requiring a custom made piece of plastic to bolt the bumper into. It also does not have ANYWHERE to screw in the fender liners..they are basically hanging there, rubbing against the tires. I am so disappointed, I spent alot of money to get this bumper fitted and painted and my car looks like a riced out civic.

Construct auto will not help..at all. They offered me $100 back which I took to offset part of the extra money I had to pay for the custom work..but they will not take the bumper back, and the owner absolutely refuses to acknowledge there is a problem. Bottom line STAY AWAY from construct's products. I also found out in doing some research that this bumper is made by Europassion, as all of Construct's products are.

This stuff happens every time I order from a vendor on here..so tired of getting taken advantage of..The bumper looks nice from above but it took alot of work and $$, and it seems like a matter of time before the fender liners come flying out.. I dont understand how these companies can get away with this

When I called to tell them about the fitment he basically called me a liar, saying that he had done multiple installs with this bumper..maybe he is blind? So much for their "perfect fitment" guarantee..thats what I get for buying from a vendor that sells Europassion's parts..I dont see how construct is even allowed to do business on here selling Europassion parts after all the scams they pulled on e90post members..

Latest email response from Peter @ construct auto..word for word. He did absolutely nothing for me except tell me I was wrong..

"I normally would go out of my way and loose money to keep my customers satisfied regardless of the return policies. At this point, after all the threats and rude e-mails, i will not do a thing beyond what i have done already.

Take it to the forums, do the chargebacks. I have done all i could for you."

A good friend of my bought an amuse bumper from them and had the same problem you have as well. Huge gap between the underpannel and the bumper. Not to mention all the other problems such as kidney grills not fitting correctly. FAR from perfect fitment.

from what you stated is true, they have the worst customer service man, how could you call a customer a liar if the OP has all the proves that shows the fitment is bad???

Give me a chance to explain this. The bumper that has the issues is from a first batch that is not for sale due to the fitment issues. We have gotten 5 of them and complained about the poor quality to the manufacturer. After that we have gotten a stock of 15 bumpers that had no issues whatsoever. We have sold those 15 pieces as wholesale to several companies and now we do not have any for sale.

In this particular case, I have explained to the buyer what the issues were with this particular bumper. I explained that the kidney grilles will not fit, that the fender liner needs to be attached to the bumper by drilling holes (see the extract from my communications with the customer below), I never claimed that this bumper has 100% fitment because its not the bumpers we regularly sell. If we do sell it, we make sure that the customer knows of all the problems and gets low price on the bumper. This is exactly the case.

As for the support, the customer service etc. See below and make your own judgment:

jcarlucci1 09-01-2009
Quote:
does it include the grill and all hardware needed? What are you supposed to do about the foglights?
CONSTRUCTauto.com 09-01-2009
Quote:
It comes with the lower grilles but you need to paint or anodize them. The bumper bolts up with all the stock hardware that is currently holding your bumper.

Also I want to mention that you might have to glue in your kidney grilles onto that bumper because the ones I got left in stock do not have mounting holes for the tabs that hold the kidney grilles.
jcarlucci1 09-23-2009
Quote:
are all the other holes pre-drilled? including those for the fender liner, and for the 3 bolts on the bottom that screw into the plastic shield underneath the car?
CONSTRUCTauto.com 09-25-2009
Quote:
My apologies. I did see it and thought I have sent you a reply.
The holes are drilled on top of the bumper for the mounting points on top of the engine bay. The holes for the fender liner and the bottom plastic pieces needs to be drilled by the shop. It is an easy job and never presents an issue.
I ship the bumper and provide my cell phone for any support issues.

jcarlucci1 10-18-2009
Quote:
This bumper did not come with the grill! I specifically asked you this question and your response was:

"It comes with the lower grilles but you need to paint or anodize them"

How can I get this piece from you? My car is in the body shop ready to be painted and I cant wait another week for you to send me a grill..please get back to me asap
CONSTRUCTauto.com 10-18-2009
Quote:
Please ask your body shop to double check the box. I have personally shipped this bumper and I put a set of grilles with it myself. I even remember where I put it inside the box.

Worst case scenario, I can send you another set of grilles for free as a courtesy; however, you would have to pay shipping on those.
I ship him another set of grilles 2-day air at my expense. I pay for shipping as a courtesy.

After several days I receive a call from Josh asking me several questions about the fender lining etc. this is a last day before SEMA and I am working overnight to get the cars ready and I mention that to him...yet, I speak to him several times trying to help him with the bottom piece. He sent me 2 emails within an hour after our conversation to which I promised to answer later. Then I receive an e-mail like this after another 2.5 hours:
Quote:
Might as well ignore the other emails I sent you..you know DAMN WELL that there is no "other part" The bumper is supposed to bolt directly to the plastic heat shield under the car.
After some back and forth e-mails and threats to post this whole deal on e90post and do a chargeback, I offer this:

Quote:
...I offer to refund you $100 to close this issue completely. It’s enough for a body shop to make a custom piece.

Let me know if you will take this offer and if you do, then I will ask for no negative comments about my business on the forums. If not, then you are on your own. I have provided a very good customer service to you and I can easily back it up with all of our communications.
So he does:
Quote:
Thats fine, my paypal is jcarlucci1@gmail.com. I wont leave any negative comments, but you really need to get this issue fixed with your bumpers..

I issue the refund.

Summary: Josh bought the bumper for much cheaper price then we sell these bumpers normally. He was previously aware of the issues with the fitment on that particular bumper. He has gotten a partial refund to cover the problems with the liner not reaching and agreed to close the issue.

So in the end, after being called "an idiot", "a liar", being held hostage by "I will do a chargeback and post it on the forums" I have finally given up on this guy and told him to do his worst.

Any business has problems with their products and I stand behind mine. Any customer of mine can tell you that I go to any length to make thing right. Good examples would be Humtek and Sejo5. I will go out of my way to help...not with Josh at this point.

bump for peter. Just to let you guys know.. even authentic Kerscher bumper you have to drill them yourselves and GLUE the grill to the bumper, it is not going to be a clip. just an FYI.. if you wanna be different, your going to have to take more work.. should've seen how I got my kerscher sideskirt and my bumper . I believe Peter backed up his argument clearly.
