Grooved rotors

Had the car in for some brake issues today. I'm told my rotors are pretty badly grooved, you can see and feel it, but they want to take me for a ride for four new pads and rotors to the tune of 1700 all in. Now I purchased this car one year ago CPO with 24k on the odometer and have put 6k on since purchase. I really hate to drop all that coin on new rotors and pads. I'm thinking I can just have them machined/shaved and get some new pads and be done. Anyone have any advise? Thanks!

What are your brake issues?

I usually don't give a crap about 'normal wear' rotor grooving. Just replace discs when they approach minimum thickness. If you were runnin metal to metal, then maybe that might be a different story.

How much pad do you have remaining?

Btw 1700 is ridiculous.

$500 and an afternoon of your time gets you all new parts.

Only if you are mechanically inclined. Take a picture of the rotors for us to see. I would also try to re-bed the brakes, which is essentially going from 70 to 5 mph 4-6 times (on an empty road!). Might help clear off all the crap.

$1700 is way too much for new rotors and pads. Try doing another braking procedure or just resurface your rotors. If you want new rotors and pads, feel free to PM me

I did my brakes for $500. Pads, rotors, and sensors. If you're not mechanically inclined I wouldn't pay more than $1000 parts and labor

Thanks! Getting some very minor vibration through the steering wheel and pedal sometimes upon breaking but not all the time. The pads are at almost maximum thickness. I thought 1700 sounded insane

Thanks! I'll give the procedure a shot if it ever stops snowing in the northeast!

I think pads/rotors are covered under the 50k maintenance warranty. My rear ones were at least. The fronts didn't go out yet.
