LHD to RHD headlight conversion Pre-LCI or LCI ++

For those of your purchasing headlights, Sometimes you run on a great deal for some RHD headlights. Or, those of your who need RHD headlights can only find LHD headlights. The thing is, they are exactly the same. However, there is one quick mod you must do inorder to create the correct cutoff line so that you don't blind oncoming traffic.

(Headlights can remain on car while this modification is done)

1: Open the rear cover

2: Look on the Lowbeam projector for a small plastic arm and flip it Left or Right depending on what you need (LHD/RHD)

3: Grab a Beer and Enjoy

There is a spring loaded mechanism inside the projector shutter. With this simple arm you can change the cutoff line to either LHD or RHD. I will include pics of the mechanism and the difference it makes when you flip this shutter.

Feel free to ask any questions

Quick question; so for LHD is it like this? -----\_____ on the metal shutter inside? And for RHD is it like this? ____\----- when looking from behind the headlight assembly. Are they the same for both headlights? Thanks.

LHD to RHD conversion

I know your post is old but I found it on a search for relevant threads. I have a similar problem, but my car is LHD and wish to import. You can't modify LHD headlamps in this way (just RHD) so you have to replace. I'm told that after market replacement headlights may not "talk" to the E91 software, and so can cause further problems if you fit them. Do you have experience of this?

It really is. You can read up all you want about how to please a woman, you can look at all the diagrams in the world, but just like the clitoris, you won't know what the hell an apex is before you actually find it.

I have a LHD 330d E91, brought into UK from Germany. To register in UK, it needs RHD headlamps (because the LHD headlamp light beam is aligned incorrectly).

ohhhh i see, so this wont lift the level of the lights ? my lights seem to point too low to the floor imo and i thought this would be the fix :/ but thank you for letting me know

Just installed a LDH right side AHL Bi-Xenon to a RHD car and changed the beam shape to suit RHD. For a RHD the right side off beam on the right side headlamp - driver side - needs to point downwards so it does not blind incoming traffic.

Worked perfectly

Once the beam shape is adjusted, one may also need to adjust the vertical and horizontal aim of the light. This is done from above the headlamp (no need to open the headlamp assembly) - open the bonnet and have a look at the headlamp from above - same position as you would check the cooling water level. There is a plastic adjustment screw mid rear of the headlamp assembly that will adjust the vertical aim and quite hard to see trough a fender hole at the side of the headlamp, the horizontal aim adjuster.

Can you do this with the lights in the car, and without removing the wheels, wheel arches etc?

Sorry for bringing up this old DYI..
Can somebody clear that in which direction the arm should be for US spec (LHD) cars. The arm should be facing downwards or upwards??
Also is the setting same for both side headlights (Driver's and passenger's)??

sorry for bringing up this thread but I just wanted to write that you can do the trick with the lever only if you have projectors (Bi xenon lights) headlights.
if not, then you have to buy another pair of headlights. I forced to buy a used RHD pair when I decided to get uk plates.
