Leaking Index 11 Fuel Injectors?
Hi
I bought some Index 11s from a refurb company in Germany, recently. Came with new compressed, ready-to-fit seals and I bought new decoupler rings. Car seemed to work fine for a week and then developed the EML again. Diags do suggest an issue with the NoX sensor, so I have a new one and still need to fit it. But for good measure, I took out the new spark plugs (fitted at the same time as the injectors). All smelled of fuel a little after being parked for about 3 hours. None are wet. But cylinder 2 and 4 plugs had a much stronger smell of fuel. Does this mean the injectors are leaking? I wonder if the faulty NoX sensor results in a much richer fuel mixture? Cheers. |

Before you do anything with injectors, you need to make sure you have no fault codes with the NOX system and that the car is running in all 3 engine modes.
If you don't, new adaptions won't be formed after you've replaced the injectors. |

For me when I found my injector was leaking, the spark plug tip itself was much more dark/burned than all the others that had a ash gray color.
And the smell was very striking vs the leaking plug vs others. I would do the test again but overnight instead of 3 hours only to see how strong the smell is compared to others. |

When I had a leaking injector, the car ran like absolute crap for the first five mins in a morning. From what I've read, refubishing the piezo injectors is a massive gamble, many saying it can't be done. However, I understand that these are now £350+ each new, so needs must.

You need some kind of diagnostic tool, for example carly will tell you in the NOx menu. INPA will tell you.
I can hear it on my car as the injection pump starts making a high pitch noise! |

https://bimmer-tool.com/ It's a great tool that also allows you to force a desulphation session if you have the 30EA error. You can log the data and it will graph for you with its in-built viewer or you can take the data to a spreadsheet (it's a CSV file). There's a parameter called 'Operating mode': 1 - Stratified Charge; 2 - Homogenous; and 3 - Homogenous Lean. It's in mode 1 that parameters to do with the injectors are learnt, modified, adapted etc. This mode has to run. It's also the mode where you save fuel. I run the app from an old Tesco Hudl 2. |
