100k question

Hi guys,

my car recently hit the 100k mark, and i was wondering is it better to go to the dealer for the service that's required for 100k, or indi shop?

Just wondering before i contact rmp or ivo.

my service light did come on. I'm assuming nothing is wrong just the 100k mark notifying me to go in and check.

It comes down to if you still have warranty or not.

Indy, no question. You'll pay less for (arguably) better service.

You're asking the guy from Florida. I'd go to Ivo or RMP.

If I hadn't been going to the dealer for some time, I probably would. It seems like a good milestone to pay the extra money and have a full on once over done to the car so I'd have a very accurate and reliable picture of my car's prospects for the years ahead. By the same token, I like a good bargain as much as the next guy, but also I'm a good deal less price sensitive than many people, so though I'm not fond of paying dealer prices, occasionally doing so doesn't bother me.

I tend to buy my cars new and keep my cars for 10+ years. Anything past 10 years depends entirely on how well the car's holding up. If it's still going strong, I'll keep it longer than 10 years.

All the best and good luck.

The problem with this argument is that a good Indy like Rocco at RMP, knows more about these cars than any stealership hack. And I have experience working in a dealership! So keep that in mind before you pay inflated prices - it is crazy how much a dealership will rip a customer off just to say it has been 'BMW serviced'.

Well, were Rocco and his skills and abilities known to me and convenient to me, I'd then go to Rocco too. But until I read your post, I had no idea Rocco existed, so that was hardly a suggestion I could offer. You are in Toronto, and so is the OP, so your suggestion may well be better for him than mine, particularly if "RMP" is close to the OP. Indeed the sole human named Rocco I've ever heard of is Rocco Siffredi. Is that the Rocco whom you mean?

I did the best I can offering input to the OP. Your idea could well be a better one, especially if Rocco is geographically close. So, is Canada where Rocco is? If so, I'm hardly going to take my car from DC to Toronto, or any other part of Canada for that matter, regardless of how good Rocco is. So for now, I'm still going to the dealership. The OP may want to go to Rocco. Given your input, that's what I would do too.

BTW, I Googled "rmp car service" and "rmp car service canada" and not one single match. Regardless of how good Rocco is, he and his business (RMP ?) need to be more accessible. I did, as a last effort Goggle "Rocco RMP" and found him. I can say that after finding him, he seems very well regarded.

Rocco, if you are reading this, move to DC, please.

Tcharged, years ago, I'd found a great indy in DC, and they even would pick up and return my car to me, and I did use them instead of the dealer. The only worked on BMW, MB, Audi and Porsche cars, but they were outstanding. They aren't around any longer; the landlord sold the property to a developer who "gentrified" the area, and a huge condo/apt building is now where they were. If one goes into the parking garage there, one'll see more BMWs that one can shake a stick at.

All the best and I'm glad you had a better suggestion for the OP than I did.

Hands down I'd be going to indy, and Rocco at RMP is my guy. I work about 2 min away from him which makes it very convenient. He is the only guy that services my car, other than warranty purposes. Always upfront just a great guy to work with, he's very precise on his work and when you check out his shop, you'll see how organized and clean it is and you can pretty much judge his workmanship. I have owned my car for almost 2 years, and have nothing but compliments for Rocco. And most importantly, his rates are very fair.

My (US) car recently passed the 100k km mark and I didn't get a service engine light coming on. Is this a canadian car specific thing ?
