HELP: Guy with Mustang GT trying to buy a 335i

Hey guys I'm new here and looking to get into an E90 or E92 335i. I found this one on CL and I'm wondering how good of a value it is and what you guys have to say in way of thoughts. Are they decent mods? The only one of I've heard of is the JB4. I'm new to the world of Bimmers and turbos. My current car is a lightly modded 06 Mustang GT. I appreciate the help!

2007 335i
80k miles, clean title, manual
Sparkling Gray paint, Cinnamon Dakota interior
MSport package
Premium package with iDrive and Logic 7 system

Mods:
JB4 G5
BMS dual intake
VRSF downpipes
VRSF charge pipe
Tial blowoff valve
Koni FSD shocks
Mech Tuning stepped intercooler
BMW performance exhaust system
Staggered BMW Z4 wheels - 18x8F, 18x9R - Goodyear tires (not run flats)

Parts that seller had replaced under extended warranty :
Water pump (May 2014)
Theremostat (May 2014)
Turbos & actuators (July 2014)
Injectors (July 2014)
HPFP & LPFP (May 2014)
Fuel pressure canister (May 2014)
Washer fluid reservoir (May 2014)
Oil filter housing (May 2014)
Valve cover gasket (May 2014)

He's asking $21000 OBO. Is that a fair price? Can I expect any more issues in the near future? He also has all the service records of work performed.

You better have around 2grand saved up just in case something starts acting funny. Make sure the maintenance was on point also because judging by the car and the mods it was driven hard.

Good point. How modded is this? What kind of power is this putting down?

That's full bolt on. It's fully modded. Lucky for you, all the major repairs that typically need to be done have recently been taken care of

Also, depending on how mechanically inclined you are, may not be a bad idea to shell out $150 for a pre purchase inspection. May give you some peace of mind before you commit.

Another question I had was, will I ever be able to get the roar of my Mustang back? I've been listening to YouTube vids and I know that it never sounds as good as real life, but the ones I've heard just sound like tuners (not trying to say they sound like shitty ricers.)

Price seems a bit high with this mileage. I'm not sure what the mods total up to but I wouldnt pay more then 17-18k for this.

Priced way too high. Mods don't add value, in a lot of cases they actually do the opposite. I'd pay $15k to $17k for that. Luckily, all the major things that fail just got replaced, I'd definitely ask for receipts for those if he has them.

So so far it seems 17k is the going rate for this year with this mileage. And yes he said he has all the receipts in a folder. Is anything else likely to need replacing soon?

Price seems high considering the mileage. Look for a lower mileage car.

Yeah those do sound pretty cool lol. I already test drove it and I was completely unused to hearing all the whooshing and hissing. I felt like I was messing up the car ha. The awesome part was how hard it pulled - I think even harder than my Stang.

It's definitely faster than an 06 mustang, even if the mustang is modded. That 335 will make over 400 whp easily. A new FBO 5.0 would be a good race though.

Yeah no doubt. I'm sitting at about 320 whp. Full bolt ons will only get me to about 400 whp, at the cost of around 2.5k and loss of low end torque. Any more power will have to be through forced induction. I was considering going the blown route and getting a Kenne Bell 2.6 for around 450 whp, but that's about 6k. Then add the price of forged internals for any additional power. I was thinking there's gotta be cheaper ways to get to 450-500 whp ha. (Other than just tuning a 5.0).

What all would one need to do to a 335i to get to 400-440 whp?

Nice. Out of curiosity, how much you think the 335 I posted is making at the wheels? And how much would E85 add?

Having all of the problem areas recently replaced is a huge bonus IMO. If you're looking to get into one, having it fully modded the right way (it appears) and having all of the big ticket items recently done...I'd take a hard look at it for sure.

My car put down 403hp and 460ft(6 gal E85) I have about the same mods. Even the same color car, year, and mileage ( not that that matters haha). I should have more horsepower now, I'm running the backend flash and more E85

+1

Add e85 to that car from Craigslist and you're already there. I agree with almost everything everyone has said in this thread. They're asking too much for a modded 335 with high mileage. But at the same time you can see that the components most prone to failure (water pump, hpfp, etc) have all been replaced which is great.

OP-As already said/mentioned above the car is priced to dang high IMO and I'd shoot for $17k-$18K at the very most $18K.

All the major issues look like they have been addressed which is good, currently all this year from what you've listed so that's even more of a plus in itself.

Mod wise: Very tasteful, should be over 400rwhp with e85 and you'll love the difference. My e92 335i made great power also and pulled very hard all the way through which was nice

GLWB and I'm sure after you get an inspection done on the vehicle you'll be more at ease

80K seems high, but its just about on par with the average yearly miles (12,000/year). Pretty much agree with everyone's input and shoot for less than $21K and Definitely have it inspected by a trusted mechanic you know. To get the real RWHP, you'd have to get it dynoed.

I too have a Mustang GT (2005) slightly modded (K&N CAI, Ford Racing axle Backs, Diablo Sport Predator Tuner). Haven't done any mods on my 335, but I know it has the edge over my Stang. And with mods, it can definitely smoke it. Love having the luxury of driving both my Stang and my E92 335i.

I can definitely feel the torquiness of my Stang when hit gas and shift through the gears. My 335i shoots like a rocket when those turbos spool up, but the ride is much more smoother when it goes.

Good luck to you!

Don't let a people talk you into saying mods add value to the car. They don't.. If anything they add headaches. You never know if they were done right and when it comes time to track a problem down have fun..

21k is too high for that car
