Hey guys, I really want to buy a set of Lux Angel Eyes for my car and instead of tapping into the "down payment for the house" fund, I figured that I could work for it. So, anyone got any side jobs that I could do? Any parts that are awaiting to be installed? Come on guys, help me out a little.

Hey V, how much to do CDV mod, PCV clean + OCC install, and intake valve Seafoam + subsequent oil change? (That's basically everything pending on my car!)

I probably need to source an OCC from Andrew... or you could get it for me!

Vincent- So installing OCC, CDV mod, oil change, pcv clean, and seafoam service will run $475.00 including OCC and other parts. Let me know what you want to do.

David, usually around 30K but since you just switched from winter gas to summer gas or if you change gas stations a lot, I would say about every 15-20K miles.

The N54 doesn't have a PCV, at least not one that requires cleaning. The "PCV" system is built into the valve cover, with an outlet to the rear turbo when under boost (which is what the OCC captures). When on idle or deceleration (off boost) it diverts straight to the intake manifold from the valve cover.

OCC will not help a ton with valve carbon deposits on the N54, but it will help with keeping your intercooler and rear turbo from getting an oil coating.

Interesting.... Are you referring to the vent hose (part #9) in this picture?



If that's the case, is there any way to prevent carbon buildup on the intake valves of the N54? Sounds like the OCC is only half of the solution. (Would probably be a good investment anyway if I plan on upgrading the FMIC.)

Also, does Seafoam work, or do you guys recommend something else? I've read of people using everything from Seafoam to BG 44k to Techron to Lubro Moly to using meth/water to "steam-clean" the engine, but in the end, it seems like all of those work about as well any other method, which is to say "not very well".

I'd hate to have to bring my car in to the dealer every 20k miles and pay a bunch of money so they can walnut blast the thing. With as much as I drive, that's like every friggin' year!

I've installed aluminum pedals on other vehicle before but never once had to drill into the actualy pedal. I'm confident that I can without any problems.

Vincent- I've used this stuff that GM makes called "top engine cleaner." It is a liquid that we use to open up sticking injectors. Good stuff to remove carbon buildup on the intake and valves. Once that stuff is in your car, it smokes more then cheech and Chong. Pretty much like seafoam. I can also use BG 44k if that's what you perfer.

Yes, that vent hose is the one that goes from the valve cover to the rear turbo inlet pipe. The crankcase vapors only route through that hose when on boost, but when off boost there are channels built into the valve cover that the vapors route through, directly into the intake manifold. So the OCC is only half the story, and there is nothing out there right now to completely block vapors from getting onto your valves and causing carbon build-up.

The OCC would be definitely recommended if you get a new FMIC, and really is useful even now. I had just a breather filter attached to the end of that pipe for a while, and it made a big mess all over the back of the engine bay...tells you how much blow-by the N54 has.

I have seafoamed before, not sure if it helped or not...but it can't hurt. I have heard the GM top engine cleaner is great stuff too, no reason not to use that. Only way to tell if the seafoam is working is to get a scope of the valves, or take off the intake manifold. I may do that one day just to see, its supposedly not that big a job.

or you can remove a spark plug, look down to see if you have carbon buildup on top of the piston and then seafoam it, removed and reinspect. But, it sounds like a lot of work.

Good info there, thanks Craig. Sounds like until something is created which prevents the vapors from going back into the intake manifold, I'm going to end up performing a liquid valve cleaning every oil change, and every four changes or so, take the manifold off and go ape-sh*t with a wire brush and a vacuum. (Or pay someone to do it.)

David, are you using the vacuum hose from the diverter valve to siphon in the BG44k, or are you just pouring it into the gas tank? If it's the latter, then unfortunately, you're not doing anything to combat the carbon buildup issue on the intake side, which is the problem I'm having.
