Software update - implications?

Hi guys

Got a letter from BMW over christmas. They have said that they want to update my software to protect it from criminal activity or something. I presume it has something to do with people cars being stolen through the ECU.
What changes will it make and will it have any effect on an evolve remap?

Cheers

Ollie

Shouldn't do anything to a remap but if you've had any custom coding done it might reset it.

To be honest it's bollocks. All it does is stops the crims dropping the window by screwdrivering the lock. They can still do it by smashing the window.

Yup as said above, the only way around it is to move the OBD port. They can stick their software update where the sun dont shine.

I'd be concerned about insurance should the worst happen. If they know BMW informed you there was an update and you refused it, might they not pay out?

+1

I've known of a few insurance companies sending out "friendly reminders" to make sure their customers get the update (for what good it does)!

Just play along and if the worst happens you can still advise your insurance the update was done!

Funny I contacted my dealer back in October about this, and requested to be informed as soon as an update is available.

Still not heard anything!

Not bothered to call them as I cant be bothered to move the ODB port back from its hiding place ! :P

Had the update done a couple of weeks ago, for what it's worth - and it did not effect my Evolve map, although I don't know if it makes any difference yours being an LCI.
