Squeeze what do you get in the M3 (mpg)

We went for a drive yesterday of about 100miles or so. Really just to see what is was like on different type of roads.

The cabin is a great place to be, very well set out and very comfy, very warm and really quite spacious.

Mpg went to about 20, however we were defo giving it a bit just to see if i could unstick it, the answer to that question is no

Now then let me just talk about the engine. It is quite simply superb! The power is seamless as the 7 speeder is obviously working very well. Its sounds like a petrol V8 i honestly cant hear any deseil rattle (harpalb is that the same with you?). Now then it is a seriously quick car and probbably feels quicker than it is because of the size of the damn thing. I used to think the 335d was the best desiel engine in the world but i've now cahenged my mind V8 baby is the way to go

Now im going to get this thing dynod as it feels stronger than the remapped 335d (simon empas/caa) simon says his gets 350bhp and 700nm and the Merc as standard has 306bhp and 700nm. Simon i think you should be worried

All in all im chuffed to bits with the Mrs new car.....i just wish i got to drive it more often

I drove mine back form the dealer (about 40 miles) and the OBC reads 25.5mpg, that was treating it gently! I know mine is the smaller 6 cyl 320CDI engine but was hoping for a bit more than that. I drove 400miles in the Disco last week, all motorway driving at about 75-80 (indicated) and it only returned 27.5mpg. Conclusion; manufacturers consumption figures are way out. I am hoping the Merc engine loosens up a bit and the mpg goes up accordingly.

I agree with you Steve, the interior of the ML (GL) is a very nice place to be and the 7G auto box is seamless and effortless. We didnt get heated seats which is disappointing, I thought they came as part of the leather upgrade pack, never mind. Another gripe is that my well specced stock car didnt come with Bi-Xenons as standard, you would expect that in a £57K car! It makes the Disco interior seem very agricultural in comparison.

Honestly......no diesel rattle AT ALL. There is of course the odd tell tale sign, but thats whilst its stationery and very very cold.

Gearbox: it learns you're driving style well. For example, if you're about to join the motorway and put cruise at motorway speed (not 70mph LOL) the car will either 1. pull away agressively as quick as it can if you tend to use kick down a lot or have a lead foot OR 2. get up to speed smoothly much less quickly. It'll take a few miles for it to learn. I know most cars auto's do the same but this is my first auto and its really amusing to see people's reaction to seeing a big black inverted jelly mould (yet an attractive one at that) plunder through the lanes at insane speeds and lunging (sp?)forward!!!

There are more powerful, quicker 4x4s out there. The only one to beat it is the Cayenne Turbo but I cant afford to buy one nor run it. But for a diesel it is no compromise at all.....I'd like an X5 3.0sd maybe but find the ML less drug dealer-ish and a little more respectable. The RR is old and the RR Sport is way too common and again has a bad image. Well it does round here in Huddersfield, Manchester and Liverpool LOL

I knew I should have stretched to a GL420 ... 22mpg is entirely acceptable in my view. The GL OBC has reduced to 19.8mpg.

Anyhow you want be loaded for long at £1.20 / litre

Personally, I prefer to save it up until I am 50, then I can tell the world to F@ck off and go on a spending spree before the kids start wanting me to give them 100% cash deposits on houses

Steve, nice car mate Sorry but unsurprised to hear the mpg figures quoted are unachievable in the real world, but I guess (as you say) mpg is not massively high on your list when you buy a 4.2l SUV.... Anyway, enjoy.
