So to update my install, I bought the old kit when i needed the new as mine is LCI but an early one. Anyways went ahead and wired it in successfully except they still haven't corrected the labelling error on the crossovers so when I first fired it up it was all bass & treble and nothing coming out of the mids. So whipped the door cards off, swapped the wiring around on hte crossovers and bang instant and loverley upgrade in sound. Next thing to do is to recode the car and then I'll be done but even now the improvement in sound is immense.

Unhappy Base stereo < ECS HiFi Retrofit

2011 328i Coupe LCI

I want to upgrade my base stereo to this http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2178579/

Ive downloaded the install instructions but I am still unclear about what to crimp . Does anyone have any more detailed photos of the Install?

Do I have to do some sort of crossover to my underseat woofers? I dont understand that step either!

Ive done a lot of reading about this but still install but not enough I guess. Can anyone help??? Thanks

You do not need to crimp anything your's will be just plug & play!

In addition to information on this site I found the following guide very helpful

I think the cars BEFORE 03/09 require the crimping, & the cars built AFTER 03/09 dont...

That's correct to a degree. But mine is an LCI model built before 03/09 so it was a bit of a gamble as to what I needed.

Just completed this upgrade on mine.

I bought a post LCI version on eBay, hacked the connectors off and spliced in directly to my non LCI E90.

Wiring harness is exactly the same with the two versions, just the wires aren't quite long enough so had to extend the cables slightly by soldering on a metre of extra cable.

Works perfectly and improves the sound considerably. An essential upgrade!

Hi, first of all I would like to say hello to every one.
I've recently bought 2012 e92 m3 with basic audio (4 speakers and 2 subs) and didn't think that would be so cr*p.
After reading quite a lot about hifi in bmw I consider fitting alpine kit. So I went to my local dealer to order the kit and they said that they can order but I need to change right sub (buy another one) and wire it to right doors?
They sent me fit instruction as well and it is stated that it should be done for option 662 only.
I wonder why new sub should be fitted, as I have seen lot of threads about installing retrofit alpine with standard audio and nobody was changing right sub.
Anyone help?

I seriously doubt you need to change the right sub, I believe that is only for cars fitted with the Business HU which only have 1 sub and you need to add another bass but I'm sure a M3 would not be specced so basic.

Can you check what your head unit is? Is it the iDrive system or a BMW Professional one?

Alternatively, if you post the last 7 digits of your VIN one of us can get you a list of exactly what kit you need and what part number(s) etc!

Wrong info passed.
If you have m3 with cic then you just need alpine kit.
L7 subs add better / deep bass to system with alpine hi-fi kit.

Bmw has launched alpine kit for f2x / f3x which has 6 channels (rears are amped). Its around 500-600 but better executed imo.

Yep 65412163268, if you've got the correct tweeter covers then that's all you need (mind you there are different ones for the E90/E91 and E92/E93 - as long as you've got the right ones).

The kit is pretty much plug and play and not too difficult to install on your own. You will need to get your HU coded to HiFi though for optimal sound.

Whilst you're at it, it is worthwhile upgrading the subs too.

Alpine Kit on german ebay

hi Guys

collecting the new car tomorrow and unlike my previous E90 330D it only has the bass stereo so looking at the Alpine upgrade

this is available on the german ebay site

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2214818890...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

part number matches the post just above so that looks ok at £255 plus postage the price looks good as well, will only need to get the tweeter cover trims for the doors

i cant find a better price anywhere in the UK for this, my new car is a 2011 model so this looks like the right one

i also read that it will need coding after as well to complete the install. i have read quite a few of the guides on here so will be installing it myself, would the coding need to be done immediately? or will the sound be bad until its coded ?

thanks

Coding can wait but you will notice the improvement once done. As mentioned before in the thread this is a great guide:

http://www.mysysadmintips.com/other/...=1&limitstart=

Make sure you have some interior trim removal tools, the plastic ones which dont damage

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I recently got an E90 that already came with the Alpine Hifi upgrade. Every so often the passenger side mid-range speaker and tweeter intermittently switch off and don't emit any sound.

The speakers then randomly come back either by powering the car on and off, slamming the passenger door or going over bumps but not always.

Any idea on what it could be? Loose wiring? Amp?

Could this be fixed by a local independent rather than BMW?

When they are working it sounds awesome compared to the stock speakers I have had in the past.

Thanks.
