P0087 fault!
Hi guys
Well I've been having some problems lately with my 318D. For a while now I've been getting an engine light and limp mode which is then fine for a while after I restart it. I previously had a remap and have just had the DPF removed along with a new map as it had been causing problems and I thought this one might also have been related. The problem occurs when flooring it through the gears and hasn't happened to my knowledge any other time. Well it hasn't gone away so I bought a code reader and it comes up with fault code P0087 which is fuel pressure too low. Couldn't find any record of the fuel filter ever being replaced in my service history so I thought aha, I've found it, and I've replaced the filter. Seemed fine for a few days until today when I can barely go past 3/4 throttle without it happening and its consistently doing it now. Anyone got any ideas where to start? Some sort of problem with air in the fuel lines after the filter change?? |

It was definitely working fine for the last couple of days after the filter change as the light didn't come on at all, and it's definitely gone faulty today as I've just taken it down the same road I have done for the last week and the lights come on straight away...

Theres a controller for the electric fuel pump in the tank, have you checked that for any codes? You'll maybe need a BMW specific scan tool to check, rather than a generic one.

I haven't run any BMW specific scan tools on it. Will the USB cables and software on eBay do the job?
Can't help but think it's funny timing with me having done the fuel filter so recently though... If I left a clamp loose or something and air was getting in (or fuel getting out) could that do it?? |

Not sure, the filter is under pressure from the electric pump in the tank, so if something was loose it'd be leaking fuel.
The ebay cables should do the job. Mine came from BCables.com and came with all the software. |

I'm going to have another look underneath at the clamps before I do anything then. Will probably order some of those cables you linked to as well, that'd be brilliant!
It hasn't been doing it so much today - felt like it was holding back though even when the light didn't come on. |
