Big Changes... build thread (carbon fiber roof, vented hood)

Big changes for 2015. Since I've been tracking my car I've got hooked on the track bug. With that, some function and form mods in the works.

Carbon Fiber roof from IND Distribution. Saves about 50 lbs from the highest point of the car. Probably won't shave lap times but a lighter car handles better, brakes better, accelerates faster, and gets better MPG.

Custom vented hood in progress. I've been dealing with some heating issues, even with the Mishimoto Radiator so I figure let's vent the hood. I could've bought a carbon fiber vented hood but I don't like the way they look and that would have been too easy.

Build in progress and will be updated accordingly...

In for this. PLEASE more details on the roof. That's freaking killer.

Edit: Curious though - you saved weight on the roof - but why not save weight via a CF hood? I love the craftsmanship - don't get me wrong. If I recall correctly a proper CF hood can save 15LBs

Wait until you see the next phase (after this one).

It's a carbon fiber roof made by IND Distribution. It was designed specifically for the E90 M3 since they did not come with the option of a CF roof from the factory like the E92s.

I don't really like the CF hoods on the market and I wanted something custom. I'm not sure about CF hoods for our cars but I didn't want to worry about hood pins/latches.

Congrats! Looks great! I remember when my car looked like that with the roof off. Looked very odd with nothing over the cabin.

BTW: It shaves about 35lbs. off the roof.

My car isn't a 335, so it's lighter to start with. I'm running at about 3,250lbs. right now since I took my Braille battery out and installed a stock battery (I don't really track my car anymore since I got my comp license).

Your post was one of my inspirations. Thanks for the quick responses and info.

Comp license is awesome. What's your track beast?

Windshield, back glass, and interior reinstalled. Roof side rails and shark fin is currently being painted but the roof is basically done.

We're still working on the hood and that's just primer on it so I can drive it temporarily. I really like how subtle it looks. You can't really tell it's there unless you're standing near the side/back of the car.

Isn't there a better BMW for tracking than an E90, tho?

I see e90 M3 owners track their cars all the time! Actually I think I've seen more dedicated track builds as e90s. I don't know why though... so I haven't answered your question.
