BMW Warranty Question
Evening peeps
Quick question as i am getting mixed answers from various places! I want to stick the 335i under BMW's warranty scheme due to the HPFP / Wastegate issue's etc and here lies the problem. I have been getting conflicting answers about the service requirements. Some have said that it has to be serviced by BMW and others say as long as it is done to schedule and with BMW parts it will still be covered. Just been to see a independent [who i know quite well] and he back's up the "as long as blah blah" So gents, what is correct?

IMO there are 2 types of warranty, other warranties from 3rd parties are not worth considering
First one is if you buy from a main BMW dealer and the manufacturar warranty/AUC warranty - as far as I am aware servicing must be done by BMW dealer to retain warranty - however there is some grey area on this as well some say to keep manufacturar warranty you can get it done elsewhere as long as genuine parts and VAT reg due to EU block exemption etc But not certain of this Secondly, if you take out the BMW extended insured warranted (provided by Mondial not BMW themselves note) then the rule was you car must have full BMW S/H and serviced at BMW. However in the last couple of months there has been some changes and I have confirmation that BMW mondial insured warranty state that you can use a independant garage as long as they use Genuine parts and are VAT registered. |

Yes that is what i am trying to get a definite answer on. If my local BMW inde' can do the servicing and the warranty remains intact then i will be happy.

Confirms what the inde said then, servicing as long as using BMW parts and on schedule, if i am reading your post correct.

I work for Land Rover and as above in a previous message if the vehicle is still in warranty regardless of manufacturers or extended then the services can be carried out by an independent as long as it's too manufacturers specification and using genuine parts. BMW are no exception to this! If the warranty company is telling you different then they are lying. I deal a lot with Land Rover and Jaguar extended warrantys which are both dealt with by Mondial/Car care so know a fair amount about them.

Yep Mondial changed the wording on their warranties just a few months ago to enable you to use an indie, previously you had to take it to a main dealer.
However I would say that even with that change it might be worth going to a main dealer anyway. I got the cost of a main dealer service to within about £100 of what an indie was charging by just shopping around at different main dealers, playing them off each other and providing my own oil (see my 335i servicing thread) and IMO a £100 difference is worth it to retain the full BMW service history as it will be easier to sell the car on with it come resale time. |

I was thinking about replacing everything myself apart from Oil & filter and then just paying for that? bet it's still £120+ though
