When you extracted the .RAR files, did you get five folders? Also, did you simply copy and past ALL of the files into the root of the USB from each folder or did you leave the files in the original folders they were extracted to?

Pretty confused but I don't want to give up.

Thanks!

What did you do after you extracted the files? Did you simply move the files into the USB's root or did you simply move the folders once you extracted the . RARs? I'm stuck in the phase.

Thanks!

Once you download the maps that you want, extract them all to your desktop in one file. If you have a 32gb USB stick you can then extract them all to that USB. Turn car on, turn sat nav on, go onto the sat nav version, wait 30 seconds - 1 minute, then it should just pop up with an update. When you download the file delete the first two files as the system won't pick them up. If you're confused send an image of the files when you download them.

Extracting 1b File

Hi,

I have previously been told I cant update my maps via USB until the firmware has been updated on my CIC. I came across this post and thought I would give it a go however I cant extract the 1b file.

Tried different USB sticks etc.

Is this because of the firmware on my CIC drive?

My car was registered 09/2009, E90 LCI

Hi All,

New here on this forum..i have a BMW 535i M Sport (Bought in the US with pretty much all the options). My Nav is Next 2015-1 and I have the latest NAV files as well on the USB. The car recognizes the USB and will start the NAV update as well but I don't have the FSC Code.

There is NO USB in the Glove Box in my car and placing the file from 1b.zip i.e. copie_scr.sh in the USB and connecting to the USB in the center console did not create the hex file for me. I don't know how to get the hex file to generate the FSC code using the following http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464.

Any/All help is appreciated.

The BMW Dealer is asking for 400$ for the Map Updates which I don't want shell out.

You have NBT not CIC. 1B File is for CIC only, which is why it does not work for you.

Just went out to my car to check the version:
NA
BMW
1.2.8
Road Map North America PREMIUM 2009-1

Also, my car is a 07/2009 build. Does this mean the OP's method won't work without first getting a firmware update at the dealer?

Can we get an update in the OP to list the pre-requisites and to which build dates does this procedure apply?

Cheers.

Car build date and current Map version are no reflection of the CIC's current firmware. It could still have the latest firmware on it if it were recently programmed.

Anyone try this with Western Digital's Passport portable drives?

https://www.wdc.com/products/portabl...4B0020BWT-WESN

Or, no go because they're NTFS?

Hi All, and i hope someone can help me to update my CIC map...

I bought an E90 LCI manufactured in 12/2009
My device is an CIC with usb in glovebox.
Version:
ECE
BMW
1.5.20
Road Map Europe PREMIUM 2009-2

I already downloaded the "Road Map Europe PREMIUM 2018-1" and put in a 32bg usb stick.
And i recover the file 1B using an usb key. I then generated an FSC code with the bmw_cic_fsc_generator.zip tool.

I followed all the steps described by Portalseo on the first post, however when I put the usb key in the glove box, they asked me the activation code when I enter the FSC code given by the Genrator it told that the code is wrong.
What should I do to pass this step?
I'm waiting for your feedback
Thank you

Read the other posts about the script only looking for the first occurrence of your car's VIN and other info. That is likely happening to you.

In this case you'll need to grab the file from the car directly and follow the manual instructions to generate your 1B file. The posts I refer to tell you how to manually search for the second or third occurrence of the car info, which is usually correct.

When I did this the first time, I found way too many EOL characters inserted into my file. This was probably due to the file transfer mechanism I used.

Question regarding copie_scr.sh file that you stick on a USB device.

what does it do?
I've looked on Linux and it appears to be complied code rather than a shell script.

It's not that I'm saying I won't plug it in, but what does it do ?
Being involved in Corporate Server security at work there are a few things that concern me when I can't see what it's doing !

Thanks

It generates the 1b file for you after retrieving the car's data.
