245/45R17 or 255/45R17 on 8" et35

I am new here (I had e46 forever, new to e9x). Anyway I am looking to change the wheels and tires on my wife's 2012 328i xDrive. I have picked out Spartan rims 17x8 et35 for front and back. I am switching to no run flat tires. The stock tires are 225/45R17 front and back. Does anyone know if 255/45R17 will fit both front and back. I do not like tire stretch at all and I live in NJ amd potholes around her insane. So Since I am not getting run flat tires because they are to siff. I am looking for a more squared look for the tire and rim. My question, does anyone know if 255/45R17, wil fitnwithout rubing?

You should probably learn how tire sizes work, the size you posted is wider AND taller than stock, so you are likely to rub.

Here's a breakdown of how size works, using your stock tire size of 225/45/17

225 = width in millimeters
45 = side wall height, AS A PERCENTAGE of width, in this case, 45% of 225mm
17 = rim diameter in inches, you prob already know this

The 225 width on an 8" rim is a good fit.

So by moving to 255/45/17:
1- Your tire is now wider than your rim, and will bulge outwards (think opposite of a stretched tire).
2- your tire is taller and has a larger diameter than before (since side wall height is now 45% of 255 instead of 225mm), this could lead to rubbing issues as well as Speedo and odometer calibration issues

Hope that helps.

I know exactly hoe tire sizes work. Read my post again - I do not like tire stretch. did you actually read my post? The 225 on my stock 8' rims are not a good fit - they are stretched - exactly what I said I don't like. I do want a wider and taller size...

I have 18x8 Style 67 with 255/35-18 Khumo Estra on my 2006 BMW 325ci and like the way they look, they do not bulge, they are pretty much square with the rim.

I know that 245/45R17 will fit without rubbing. They question is will 255/45R17 fit without rubbing?

I decided to go with 255/40-17 Tires, Same height as the stock ones just wider. I am pretty sure they will fit since I am using 8" et35 rims. hopefully it is a similar square look as my 2006 325ci...

255/40/17 will fit in the rear. They will not fit in the front. I would go 235/45/17 in the front.

False. Plenty of examples out there where peeps are running square setups with 255/40/17 on 8.5" and 9" wheels.

Depending on the tire though, 255s could end up looking REAL beefy on those 8" wheels...might end up looking goofy if there's too much fender gap and/or you don't get the offsets right.

255/40-17 Perfect Fit

I went with the BFGoodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S 255/40-17 (They have a section width of 10.2 and Thread width of 9.4) on Beyern Spartan 17x8 et35. They fit perfect with no rubbing at all. They look a LOT better (I hate the stretched tire look), they do not look to beefy at all for the rims. I think that you can probably go as much as 9.5 or 9.6 thread width (on 255 tires) and it would look good and not rub. The car is not lowered and is on stock suspension. The car rides night and day better than before.
I attached pictures, hopefully they attachments work.

If you like it, that's what's important, but even BFG states that size is meant for at least an 8.5" wide wheel.

Man those tires have funny sidewalls....they look like they belong on a off-road vehicle.
Is it just due to the tires being a bit too wide for the wheels?

It's a slightly oversized tire on a slightly undersized wheel...were you expecting something different?

Shit. I like this look. It will look great on my Wagon. I was thinking about putting off road tires for the show but that's too extreme. So this idea should be better alternative.
