E92's with radar (not hardwired)

How many of you guys have an E92 with a radar detector that is not hard wired? Where do yall plug in it at? It is my understanding that the power cord will not reach from the center console to the windshield on a passport detector. Thanks in advance guys.

@335vnm

I don't think our models have a cigarette lighter in the front.

On the e92 LCI, there's an outlet on the under side of the glove box. in 2013 they moved it back to the console under the radio.

I heard, in LCI models, the power socked is located under the glove box...

I would strongly suggest to hard wire it to the fuse box. Shouldn't take more than 15-30 minutes to install. Just get the fuse tap-in and you won't have to cut into any wires. Fully reversible as well. Gives you very clean install.

Which one are you getting? Be sure to give a nice little review since you'll be using it a lot. And good luck on your move to LA, I think you said in one of your other posts!

Only takes about 10 minutes to hard wire it.

Just snake the wire into the headliner, down the A pillar and into the glove box area of the fuse box.

Hardest thing is probably removing the A Pillar.

I have the escort 9500xi not hard wired. I have it just the the right of the rear view mirrow and it fits in the cigarette lighter just fine. Sure it may be noticeable to anyone following me, but they aren't illegal in PA, so I really could care less

im currently hardwired but before i hardwired my redline, i had the 12v cord. I don't have a cigarette lighter either so i just stretched the cord and plugged it under my glove box. That worked fine but the cord did get annoying after a while though. Good luck!

The moment I hardwired mine I thought why the heck didn't I do this sooner. Takes 10 minutes. Super easy. You won't regret doing it!

I don't mean to thread jack but what is the cheapest reliable radar detector you can get? Not valentine or escort pricing, I'm thinking under $100. I don't drive on the highway a lot so I can't really justify buying a valentine but at the same time it would be nice to have a radar detector for when I do need it.

Question, I have the passport (not hard wired). Mine goes from cig lighter to right side of rear view mirror. Sometimes during canyon runs it goes flying on hard turns, I think the little slot it fits into is garbage. I do not want it hard wired since I use it in another vehicle as well. Any ideas?

I had my car for 3 months before discovering that there was a cig lighter outlet underneath the glove department area on the left side. Doesn't require you to open the glovebox. Some have it... Some have a USB output... Worth a check lol

If you have to go cheap (which I dont recommend) the cheapest reliable RD is the Escort 8500 refurb for $150 if they are still doing them.

You can get a cheap Cobra for under $100 but then we'll be reading your "I got a ticket with my Cobra" thread real soon.
